Side mirrors

Picked up 2 OEM Suzuki side mirrors at this year’s Barber Motorsports vintage festival swap meet for $5!!!!! Sadly one of them is damaged on the adjustment swivel where somebody probably monkeyed around with it. The mirror is loose on the rod. To add to my woes the threads are too big to fit.

So here’s my options for my small budget:
1: Say to hell with it l out and tap new threads into the 2 lever assemblies
2: File down both mirrors and cut new threads
3: Just buy a new set of mirrors darnit!

Option 1: IT WOULD BE A MORTAL SIN TO EVEN CONSIDER TO MODIFY THEM, However, both of the lever’s threads have already been tapped at some point by a previous owner. The mirrors fit but the threads fell out. A threaded insert would work just fine, I’ve seen it done before on Youtube.

Option 2: This seems to be the best option since I paid a bag of chips for them! Not too difficult either but I’d have to be cautious with the file. I have a spare set of hand levers with good threads I could use.

Option 3: A good set of mirrors online would cost me an arm and a leg (maybe a kidney too). I’m too young to have a good source of income, so I’d rather not buy any. If nobody at world’s largest motorcycle museum’s annual festival sold any that would fit, chances are I won’t find any for cheap.

There’s gotta be a way I could fix the broken mirror, I’m just unsure of how to take it apart. Let me know what you think.
