Newbie with a GT250X7

Post by Tripleman99 »

Hi All,
Just a newbie saying hello, based in Hampshire, England.
I have a red 1980 GT250X7 that I have been restoring, bought as a basket case in October 2020, and is now complete. Just need to get her running properly.
The X7 was my first real motorcycle, bought on my 17th birthday back in 1980, but that one was stolen and broken a year later. So getting another and restoring her to a roadworthy condition is a nostalgia trip. Have had her running a couple of times, but is currently an unreliable starter - suspect float heights are not correct, despite setting to the factory manual figure.
Everything has had to be renewed:
Engine rebuilt - crank refurb, rebored, refinished.
Frame - stripped, powder coated.
Forks - stripped, re-chromed.
Clocks - opened up, powder coated cups and reassembled.
Tank and plastic parts repainted and new decals.
New ignition components.
Carbs vapour blasted and rebuilt with new components.
Seat recovered.

Will post some photos when I get her out of the back of the garage.
