T500 Oil Pump Question

Post by Syd »

Will the oil pump in a 72 T500 produce up to 5-6 psi to over come the check valve spring pressure with check valves fitted with new springs and balls or is the oil pump only capable of low max pressures of 3-4 psi?

It is a positive displacement pump, and oil is a liquid and (for the most part) incompressible. In theory, so long as there are no air bubbles in the line, it should have no problem. The crack pressure on the check valve specification really only has to do with ensuring that there is sufficient closing force to prevent the head pressure of the oil in the tank from lifting the valves. 8)
