T500 tuning question

Post by br549smith »

Have a 1971 that when hot pings during cruising speed and decal. Point gap 14, timing is set correct, running 30 pilot and 150 main and needle is set at top notch. Have foaled plugs in town riding but when riding open throttle it appears to be lean looking at plugs. Tried 25 pilot bike didn't run well at all. Stock air box stock exhaust.

You might want to check for air leaks carburetor to manifold boots and boots that seal the throttle cables to carbs. I had a similar situation and the problem was the carb top boots.

I have a 1970 model T500 and I run only 100% Pre Gas, high octane 92. Runs like a champ and never a ping. Thanks

Those carb top boots need to be airtight? I would have thought the amount of air leaking there wouldn't affect mixture.

Can anyone else confirm that these are critical before I shell out my hard earned cash on some new ones?

Cheers
