Electrical connector kits

HI Has anyone used the kits and tool from here?: http://www.vintageconnections.com/

Seems nice but maybe there are some alternatives.

The kits are ok but i noticed a few main issues, the tool they supply is very well made but also very annoying to use since it does both crimps at the same time.
This causes problems since sometimes the wire crimp is left slack if the wire is small, and the PVC crimp part is either good or too tight.
I prefer to do the crimps separately so i can control the way they look and the tension of each.
This is leading up to the other issue i had, you need to trim off a bit off of each ends of the wire crimp section of the connector so it can fold tighter onto the wire.
The silicone insulator covers are also made with big holes for larger gauge wire so they dont sit tight enough on the connectors either for stock wires.
If you find an alternative source for connectors do let me know..

One of the distributors we deal with sells all that stuff as individual pieces....
actually they come in bags of 10 terminals....or covers. I think they all come from the same place by the looks of those ones in the pic. I've bought bags of 10 as I've needed them and, yes, the barrel for the actual wire is too large. I'm sure this is because they sized the barrels to cover everything from 18 gauge through to 14 gauge which is NOT the way to do it. They should have one size for 18 gauge to 16 gauge and then another size for 16 gauge to 14 gauge.....but that would cost too much because of manufacturing and stocking issues.....sooooo.....one size fits all....supposedly.

I have one of the Vintage Connector kits and am totally happy with it. The only problem I have ever had is when crimping 22 guage wire. It does not work well with wire that small. It always makes nice crimps on 18 guage, which is the most common m/c wire size.
