GT500 Parts Manual

Post by oldjapanesebikes »

Has anyone else noticed that the Suzuki parts manuals for the '76/'77 GT500 seem to have a few errors ? So far, I've noticed that the item and descriptor list for the clutch doesn't match the diagram, and the handle bar grips are two different styles - the left one is the ribbed style used on late GT750's, and the throttle looks to be a typo as its the non-ribbed one used on earlier GT250, 380 and 550's. I think instead of being 57110-33012 it should be 57110-31012.

Wish I'd noticed before I'd ordered them - wonder what else is wrong :(

Thats a common problem with many manuals, especially with updates and part number supercession as the years go by.
On one instance when I was going through a vehicle parts list for a new model, I noticed the brake master cylinder did not show any piston or seal cup kits offered separately.
An email sent to the export sales division had them scrambling to send out updated info for the incorrect list so no further problems arose from it.

Thankfully you caught it on those GT500 items you've noticed so far, but it did cost you an extra part or two.

Can you post up some photos of those grips you got?

Might have to wait till we get back in July - we fly down east on Thursday and I still have a load of things I need to get done Wednesday before we leave.

Paris (Ontario :D ) on Friday - should be good ! 8)

OK - back from vacation and finally getting caught up :D As mentioned previously, the on-line parts manuals for the GT500 seem to have more than the usual few errors. The pages covering the clutch are mislabelled/misnumbered, and then I got caught by incorrect parts numbering on the hand grips. The on-line fiches used by Suzuki dealers as well as the ones on places like the Ozebook site show the right grip as being 57110-33012 which looks as per the photo below.

As can be seen it isn't heavily ribbed. For the left side 57211-15110 is listed - unfortunately when it arrived, I found that this is the heavily ribbed grip used on the GT750 and shown in the upper right of the photo below. So the problem then was, what did I have to order if I wanted a matched pair ? :? I had a choice - order another heavily ribbed right grip to match the left one I hadn't installed yet (57110-31012 shown at the bottom of the photo) or get a left grip that matched the right hand one I had already installed (which after some sleuthing through parts books turned out to be 57211-33010 in the upper left of the photo).

I've gone with the smoother ones. 8)
