Can anyone tell me the best way to clean a 1972 - GTt380 Oil Pump without taking it apart. I have one I have taken apart and the gasket destroyed itself and you can't buy these that I am aware of. Short of making a new gasket, which can be done, but would be a painstaking process, has anyone cleaned one of these without actually taking it apart and how would you be sure it is clean and not full of 39 year old trash?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I've never done this, but the only thing I can think of is to flush it through with a solvent (fuel), leave it for the solvent to evaporate, then push some fresh 2-stroke oil through it.

why do you need to clean it?
is it not working properly.
as the old saying goes why fix it if its not broken?
I'd be carefull how you go about using solvent.
use parrafin that is harmless and it won't melt the seals etc.
as for gasket why not use liquide gasket sealent just as good as the real thing.theres hardly any pressure in the pump if any to cause blow out etc.

Not sure if this is required, but 'paraffin' in the UK is called 'kerosene' in North America. Filling your pump with candle wax would not be a good thingjohnakay wrote:use parrafin that is harmless and it won't melt the seals etc.
