Need Help - GT750M carburetor boot direction

Post by Madbuffalo »

I just went out to the garage to put the carbs/boots on and noticed the intake boots between the engine and carbs are directional! Looking at the picture, the inside top of the boot has a small I'll call it bump-out. So 2 questions. Does the flat part face the engine or the carb? Does it matter if the bump-out is facing up, down, or wherever? I didn't expect that they would be directional so I never thought to look when taking it apart. Any help would really be appreciated. I'm kind of at a standstill unitl I get this figured out.

Here's a picture of where I'm at with the bike. I just finished up the engine rebuild and am just in the slow process of getting everything back together. Man this really takes a lot longer than doing my dirt bike engine  .

I just had mine off today so I know what you mean, they really only go back on one way. They should fit snug on the cylinder, if it fits loosely it's backwards. The ramp in the boot goes on the bottom.

The larger opening goes towards the air cleaner, the smaller towards the carbs.

Thanks Terry but as I mentioned I was refering to the boot between the carb and engine. Based on what Barry said it sounds like the ramp faces down and the flat side faces the engine. I didn't know what the point of the ramp was but based on it's location my guess is it prevents gravity on the carbs from pushing the boot crooked on the engine so the ramp acts as a stop?

Correct, Flat side towards the motor at the bottom.

The other comment about size is because the carb inlet is a different size to the motor inlet stub. Close but slightly different.
