GT550 Input shaft

Post by gdh12bike »

Hi again,

Anybody know if the hollow shaft that allows the clutch rod to pass through is called the input shaft? thanks - Gary

Gary, there as many terms for both transmission shafts as there are manufacturers, it seems. :(

"Input shaft" IS used for that shaft by some manufacturers, as is "main shaft"......
However, Suzuki sometimes calls it the "counter shaft" and calls the output shaft the "drive shaft".
It CAN be very confusing.
I just wish the manufacturers would agree on common terms for both shafts.
They could call the "input shaft" a "drive shaft" and call the "output shaft" the "driven shaft". This would explain the items by their functions and would be easily understood by most home mechanics, IMO......
but then you get into bikes with shaft drive and then everything changes again.
