T500 with about 30,000 miles
Am I nuts to do it myself?
I 've seen the photos of the DIY jig for splitting the crank, looks straight forward to build.
I guess the only thing that makes me hesitate is what the service manual calls
'crankshaft shake' caused by "insufficient tightness between the crank pins, center crankshaft and crank wheels, worn bearings or by stress put on the crankshaft when assembling the crankcase".
Has anyone experienced this after tearing down their own crank?
To have the crank done for me would cost $200 or so ( I have all the oil seals ready to go)and I'll pay it if I have to but I usually I like to do my own work.
Thanks,
Chris

Tearing down is 'easy' - sort of. Its the putting it back together so it works and doesn't vibrate to pieces that's tricky.

I like doing things myself too, but this was a job I happily passed off to a pro. There's too much work, too much expense, too much to go wrong and it really isn't overly expensive to have done. It'd be one thing if you plan to do a lot of them, then the investment in tooling makes sense. For only one? No way.

to have it done.

Hmmmm.....I've not heard/seen this mentioned anywhere, Pedro.....EVER. Could you clarify exactly what you mean by the "1 o'clock position" ?? Pictures ??if keeping the pump, fit the pins with the oil hole at the 1 o clock position otherwise you will get poor oil flow and early crank failure
