Oh yes, it's a great circuit, like a mini TT course. That plunge from Mountain hairpin to the Mountside hairpin is bloody terrifying. The number of bikes and sidecars I've seen going straight down the slip-road there ....
Like you John, I remember the meetings in the 70s where you'd have Mick Grant on the Kawa KR500, Sheene & Parrish on the RGs charging around ... no silencers
Nick and Gerry Boret used to race a Konig-powered sidecar outfit there, I can
still hear it wailing through the trees down to Mountside, tyres screeching round the hairpin then a banshee cry as they took off down the hill. Once heard, NEVER forgotten.
I've actually done a cycle race round there when I was 15, and it's too narrow for racing pedal cycles, so god only knows what it's like on a motorbike
In 97 / 98 I was at the September Gold Cup races where they had Jim Redman on the Honda 6, Read on an 500 MV etc. I overheard Jim Redman in the paddock chatting to someone, he said: "I'm sure they make the bloody track narrower every time I come here ..."
