Hello from IL and parts request

Good afternoon all,
I acquired my 1976 GT750 earlier this year when a friend needed a couple more bucks to buy his Harley. It is Maui Blue, and I hope to have it repainted soon to have it ready for the Slimey Crud Run in Wisconsin, which is the first sunday in October.

(Lots of old vintage bikes.)

It's work in progress but she runs and rides nice. She came without baffles, but I purchased some a month ago and now the two-stroke tone is calmed to a level that isn't so obnoxious. Cosmetically she needs help - small dent in tank, and various bits and pieces that are layered in rust.

One annoying part I need is a piece of the linkage from the choke lever to the mechanism operating the choke at the carbs. I've attached a picture and you can see how someone fabbed a piece to operate the choke. Anyone have this little piece that is between the choke rod and the choke lever? It's not shown on any microfiche...

If I'm not mistaken, you need the whole choke rod. I have several. PM me your address, and I'll go to my storage unit and pull one for you.

If you take those carbs off and give them a thorough cleaning it'll run better.

Here's a pic I found that has the piece I am looking for. It appears to be a slotted lever with a nut that holds it on the rod. Think I need the whole rod, or will just the lever and nut do?

Bike seems to run pretty well. After I put the baffles in, I had to adjust the idle as it kept dying. I'm sure the carbs could use a good cleaning tho!

Chel, that little piece is often missing. You are correct, that tt is held on the choke rod by that nut and lock washer.

If Lane has a spare rod assembly, I'd grab it. It's possible that the choke rod on yours may be damaged or butchered. It's an easy replacement.

While that's going on, it would be a good time to clean and inspect the carbs.

Thanks for the input. Funny how these little parts are "often missing".

My boyfriend is a machinist and had offered to make one, and maybe with one as a template he can knock off a few extras. He's making me some stainless steel head bolts (the 11 sleeved ones) to replace the nasty chromed ones that are flaking. Gotta love someone with access to that type of equipment.

Yeah, I'll just send you the whole rod assembly. It's easier that way, and I have at least two of them I'm not using. I'm pretty sure I know where they are.....
