Gt550 expansion chambers

Post by Hawky416 »

Morning all, new here been a member for a while but haven’t introduced myself !
I’m currently building a 76 GT550 cafe racer (slowly!) I’m looking at expansion chamber options and I’m going for looks over performance, I want the raw look as opposed to chrome or black. I see delkevic make them for a gt750 but don’t list a 550
Any ideas ? Could the 750 pipes be modified to mount the 550?
Thanks for any help

Delkevic do 550 pipes at about £750. They look like the downpipes have been formed using a brick and are nasty loud. Not pretty at all imo.
Mick Abbey did the ones on my 550 - they were ceramic coated about 4 years ago and still look good. Details here - clicky linky as is the build thread if you like non standard 550s as I do.
I recently sold both sets of 3-1 550 pipes too, the ones I used (Piper) didn't appear to make any difference performance wise but were a helluva lot lighter than standard pipes!

Cornering clearance at the side stand is an issue with some 3-into-3 exhausts.

I’m using Higgspeed 3-into-3 on a 72 GT550 cafe build. Currently working on a custom side stand.

Have a GT380 cafe build. A 72 frame + 74 motor & Higgspeeds. Made a custom side stand to deal with cornering clearance.

Great thanks for all the help, there are more options than I thought !
I want to keep the 3 pipes at the back I think it looks cool and I love the raw look seeing as many welds as possible on a cone expansion chamber looks the nuts ;)

Somebody bought JEMCO out and has all of their old patterns. They are in Kentucky now.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........
