OK Guys -- I'm losing it.
I'm beginning to think about how long the jail term might be for killing 3 - 4 dogs that desperately need it. I'm about to lose my mind. These dogs behind me have driven me to my wits end. There are 4 of them that belong to an owner directly behind me. A long haired daschund, a regular daschund and 2 terrier looking outfits. These dogs bark at molecules. My shop ( I'm here) is in the back yard - right against the dividing privacy fence. This puts me only a few feet away. Doesn't matter if you are in the house. StilL LOUD squeaky barking continuously.
These dogs bark at everything. Moving blades of grass, moving leaves, and forget if they see a squirrel. You might as well leave home for a few hours.
I'm starting to think that a month or two in the slammer might be a fair trade off. I'm just about ready to snap here.
And then there are these freakin frogs. Take it from me. Don't ever build a backyard pond if you enjoy a peaceful nights sleep.
AAAHHHAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!

I know how you feel. I have dogs and I'm always careful to make sure they don't bark when I'm not around. Leaving dogs outside for long periods doesn't help and small breeds like that can bark like crazy.
I know it's not a pleasant conversation but your best bet is probably going over there and trying to reason with the guy. Maybe he could put them inside during certain times of the day when your looking for some peace and quite. Then again, if you work shift work like me that could pose a problem.
Of course it the guy is a jerk or these dogs don't have any other place to be than back there.......that's another problem. They should, at least, be put in at night. I'm sure other neighbors are feeling like you do.
Good luck.

before you kill em(I sympathise,I want to tromple my sisters two mutts every time I visit my parents house),check and see if there are any nuisance laws pertaining to yapping dogs. You will probably make a bad neighbor but a few fines from the local authorities could get them locked up in the house again.Worth a shot.

F*&^ing dogs...!
I really sympathize with you Chris.
We did the 'tree-change' thing a few years ago to escape suburbia and the constant barking and general annoyance of people's untrained and neglected mongrels, and man, am I ever grateful.
My fiance works for a local Council here in SE Queensland and the stories she tells of the sheer amount of grief that dogs and their friggin' no-hoper owners generate in her day-to-day work is phenomenal, they essentially keep her and her many colleagues employed virtually full-time.
If she had her way (and I agree wholeheartedly), the whole lot of them would be shot - dogs and owners.
Riddle me this - why does it seem that the lower the socio-economic group, the larger and more dangerous the dog?
Now, I'm a cat-person for various reasons, the least of which is they don't bloody make much noise!
I'll take a bit of cat's piss on my front veranda occasionally over a continuously yapping mutt any day of the week...
My advice - get the local Council involved first.
Then shoot and don't ask questions.
Cheers
Paul

I hate Daschunds My Ex Neighbor had some.Notice I say Ex Neighbor HAD Some.
They used to crap in my Yard.I'd collect the crap with a Shovel and catch him gone then I'd take it and throw it up Against his front door.
Notice I said Ex Neighbor.

Used to take care of Around 30 of the Damned things Had to wear welding gloves and the damn things would still eat me up.One bit thru the gloves one day and got loose on me.Owner came home Bitched me out and I quit.Only made 20 Dollars a day it wasn't worth it.
Chris in your Situation...... Well dogs like Chocolate....... Feed them Exlax......Pretty soon they'll be too Week to bark or your Neighbors will get rid of them.
I hear Alka Seltzers in Hamburger makes for some good fun.I hear they take their pets to the Vet when they start Puking up Pink Foam.
You might get some Quiet time then.
Don't get me wrong I love dogs.I'm a Dog Person but I just can't stand Daschunds and Maltese's.Or just about any other small Shrill Voiced crap Eating Ankle Biters.

OH man, can I sympathize with you! Used to drive me nuts living in town. Always wondered how come the owners of those mutts never seemed to hear that. I now live in the boonies and love the serenity but I know everyone can't just leave.
Ya can't shoot em though. Not worth the grief. Like someone said in the post above...try talking to the guy. If that don't work, call the cops and keep calling them. Get your neighbors who feel the same way to call also. Best of luck!

pj, I noticed it too... the more they are low in the ladder the more they own terrific dogs (mastino, dobermann, etc.). Whenever the dog is a real monster, well... you can say the owner is a gangster for sure.
Maybe a fallic extension? Mine is larger, uglyest and bad than yours?
Dont' know and it is not of my interest....I dont' like dogs.
Chris, "drop the bomb, exterminate them all!" (from Apocalypse now)

Doesn't your town or county have a "noisy dog" bylaw, Chris ??
If it does then the town/county usually has at least one bylaw enforcement officer-type whose only job is to go around taking care of complaints about dogs, weeds on other folks' property and messed up yards/alleys (think old cars and discarded washing machines). That way you don't make any enemies on the local police force. Cops absolutely HATE having to look into petty BS types of things like dog complaints......and YOU end up on the cops' sh!t list because they now think of you as a "whiner"......although your complaint is certainly legit.
My .02 worth.....

Prestone wont work if they are water cooled models, so forget that plan,,LOL
BUT i do understand your predictament since ive got this mutt next door that barks at itself AND everything else around it constantly.
Its been living for about 8 years or so, so its getting on now in age, soon the end will be near,,, i hope.
No matter what time it is this 'thing' barks basically 24-7, getting up at 400am to go cycling its barking, during the day still barking, in the evening and night its still barking.
I have come to the conclusion it will still bark in the ground when its finally dead. I wish i had one of those japanese inventions called a bark converter, with these youre supposed to hear what its actually saying in English, it might be translated into 'kill me and put me out of my barking misery'.

Obviously the problem ain't the dog, it's the owner. Maybe you should start making their life just as plesant as yours. Dueling Banjos or Flats and Scruggs played at about 110 decibles should get their attention, then negotiate. Explain you will turn down your music, if they will turn down their dog.
Worked for me in a college dorm when I got tired of listing to the awful music the guy next door played at all hours on full volume, even when he wasn't home.
