GT500 Drilling front dic and Front Fender ( Mudguard )

Looking for some advise

Can someone help with how I best drill the front brake disc, to ensure it is still balanced.

I am looking to buy an Black coloured fibre-glass or plastic front fender, maybe a TR500 or RG500 replica. Also is there a need to fit a fork brace. If so any help with design or where I can buy ?

I just lay out a pattern I like , center punch, center drill, drill to size with a high speed steel drill bit,slight chamfer to break edge, stone. Check wheel balance. Too bad you live half way around the world as I have a spare disc sitting here.I have done about 20 discs this way, all work done on a Bridgeport vertical mill.

Hello Trevor,

I would be of the opinion that you do not need to drill your disc for "balance". Any very minor imbalance will all be sorted when you balance the wheel overall. If you mean drilling the disc face to face to save a bit of weight and to make the disc look cool with a nice radial pattern then Jim has summed it up. One point however is that stainless steel can be a pig to drill. Use a low speed with plenty of drill lube and the best drill bits you can get.

If you don’t mind spending some $$$, then you could also opt for an EBC rotor, either the MD3019RS or their new VMD3019.
