gt750j blinker issue

Post by kiwi »

hi guys, another small issue, blinkers work fine if bike has some reves on ,but at idle blinker light stays on and wont blink, seems marginly better if headlight is turned off, battery seems ok,certainly cranks the bike over ok with the electric start,i would have thought the voltage for the blinkers would come from the battery so seems funny that they work with reves
any thoughts appreciated dennis

Dennis,
This is not uncommon. At idle, the charging system is essentially inoperative and the battery will be discharging, especially if the lights are on. If the battery is a little tired but otherwise the system is normal, a new battery might fix it.
Do go around and check all connections and earths are clean, and also check idle voltage across the battery, as well as the voltage when held at say 3000rpm. It should peak at around 14 to 14.5V. If its way too low, you can adjust at the voltage regulator (either a screw and lock nut or a tab to bend....yes, really!....depending on whether ND or Kokusan. The one with two screws holding the cover on is easier to adjust). Not too high either as >14.5v will cook your battery.
Good luck!

The only similar problems I've had is because the bulb wattage is too low to activate the flasher unit. (not enough amp draw). But in that case they don't work at any RPM. With everything off and the key on (not running), they should flash. Your bulb wattage seems fine as they do flash with increased juice to the battery, I would suspect the battery is the problem.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.
