As mentioned in a previous post, I have totally stripped the bike for a freshen up. Powdercoat frame, crank seals, rebore etc, but one problem I have is making good the mess at the fuel tap without damage to the original paintwork which is in pretty good condition.

I fear that any attempt to repair that is going to damage your paint. If it were mine, I'd replace any internal petcock parts as needed, and paint the glob either black or a blue that's close to the tank's color. Address the petcock problem when you can no longer avoid it.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

Luckily the "glob" can't be seen so colour doesn't matter. But the tap is at an angle and a section of the frame has been ground away to allow the vacuum line to connect to the tap. I will be fixing the ground away section before powdercoating. I think, as sugested to me in a previous post, I will cut it all back and see what the original problem was.
I imported it from the USA. The engine has never been apart before, still on original bores. It was a pleasure to be the 1st to strip it down and not have any chewed screws and the like to deal with.
The bike was last registered in 1988 from what I can tell. From marks on the bike, I reckon someone took off with the sidestand down as the bracket it bolts to is bent, the bike flipped at low speed, resulting in a scraped right hand exhaust, minor scratching of front mudgaurd, and a couple of other small right side scratches.
There is some leaking from the 2 stroke oil lines, hard to tell from where exactly. I have got new check valves from ebay, anyone had experience in fitting these?
I took it for what I think was it's 1st run on the road for a long time to clean it out and get an idea of what I might need to look for when stripping it, it bogged down a bit at mid range, then I ran it at about 140kph for a while and it went well. After that, mixed with the leaking 2 stroke oil on top of the crank case was gearbox oil. I couldn't work out where it came from or why........until I drained 2.5 litres of oil out of it. With that much oil in it and it's 1st run, the pressure had blown the base gasket I think.
This is a real trip down memory lane, I had the same model as a 17 year old in 1977, and last weekend was the 1st time I opened my original Haynes manual after 38 years. I even recognised some of the oil stains on the pages and coul remember what I was working on at the time.

I've fitted the ebay check valves.

They came apart as the instructions suggested with no problem, but two of the metal clips broke on reassembly. I replaced the broken clips with fuel pipe clamps, a bit like these, but smaller

I have had no problems in the last 7000 miles or so

Thanks Tricky. Good to know. I was thinking, in case they are leaking at the joint where 1 line changes to 2, that I might put Araldite or something similar around the joints.

I did that too, just in case. No harm done if it's not actually leaking
