Hooking up the fuel lines

Post by celt_rock »

So I'm basically done. I've hacked away, and hacked away (and I use the term "hack" in it's most degrading sense), replaced the gaskets on the pet cock and now I'm ready to put the tank on, put some gas in and fire up this here 75 T500. Only problem is, nothing was on the bike when I got it. It was a literal basket case. Manual doesn't show you how to hook up the fuel lines. Anyone have any tips, situations to avoid, which nipple goes to which carb, etc?

Carbs -- The single nipple (on just one carb) on the intake is the vacuum. The nipple on the left side of the carb body is the fuel.

Petcock (stock T500) -- The two nipples pointing straight down on the side of the fuel strainer are fuel. The one on its own, at a slight angle, is the vacuum.

Wow, that petcock looks brand new! Much unlike mine.

So I had guessed at that, I guess I was more wondering, does it matter which fuel line goes to which carb and should
the vacuum line come at the nipple from above or below? I don't know how it came stock and I don't know if folks have
preferences and why. Thanks Connor, always the help! How many of these do you own?

Nope. Both fuel lines from the petcock are the same.

Just have the one T500 now (but too many carbs and petcocks than I care to). The fuel system has been my biggest headache of all on this bike, so I have more experiences to share than I have ever wished.
