I'm new to this forum and to Suzuki two strokes.
Just acquired a little 1970 U50
Will start ok but a twist of the throttle and it dies.
Took delivery yesterday and was able to have a little putt putt about but this seems to be an extension of the lack of power I noticed. Tomorrow I'm going to have the plug out and stick my finger in (the only way I know how) to check the compression. Tried blocking over the exhaust - the motor dying but not as quickly as I thought it might. Also it has stood for a while, so could it be the fuel needs renewing??
First thing is pull the carb. and clean it. Sounds like the main jet is partially blocked. Next, pull the baffle out of the muffler, don't know what may ahavwe a nest in there or if a lot of miles, maybe carboned up.
Think I need more help as I am a bit concerned. Got the bike running with out cleaning the fuel/carb - just seemed to come alive so presumed a blockage had disappeared. Went for a spin during which there was nice acceleration and generally preppy ness of the motor. Then started dying away I guess more dirt blocked up the carb. Had noticed some paint residue around the top of the tank which may be a factor. I'll get the fuel/carb thing done.
BUT notice a bit of a difference in my sellers care instructions (to me) and the factory manual. He said the posiforce tank had been removed so that he could ensure the 2 stroke mix. However manual talks about the benefit of the posiforce system being that the oil is not diluted by the fuel and gets injected to where it's needed. The seller has already done 500+ miles with premixed so I presume nothing major has happened and apart from 'blockages' things seem ok to me.
Can anyone throw any other light on my position meantime though. It's dark and I a feeling my way. Don't understand the posit order basics I'm afraid! Thanks in advance.
