Well, there y'go.
Let's have a curtain thread for the dipsticks, or even a dipstick thread for blind people.
(That's people with blinds as the others wouldn't see the point would they?)

That was as pointless as an electronic ignition

Blinded by the light - reflected off those chrome covers no doubt.

All jesting aside is there any way to remove chrome electrically without eating the base metal? Ie reverse plating so that the chrome migrates off the part to an anode or cathode or whatever it is that sucks metal off parts.

I tried to get brass spoke nipples plated once and each time they tried to strip them the nipples just got eaten away. Turned them to junk. But potentially (that was for alan H  ) there must be a way to remove just the chrome with the appropriate electrodes and chemical soup.

What i have seen requires the acid bath that seems to work fine on base metals but i dont know about aluminum.

Currently, your puns are getting worse.
Have you been reading my old posts and condensing them down to a smaller capacity by using direct ways or maybe alternating between positive and negative methods?

Oh yes you are!! All together now - 'Ohm no I'm not!'

Enough of the electrickery jokes or we'll be getting Allan'ed!!!

Ohm eye, we're a bright spark in the morning. That can be rectified if you want to be more direct. We don't want more regulation.

Keep it on point people :P ,,, ok so the chrome has to come off, then the nickel and finally the copper. This is all based on the fact it was properly done as triple plate.
When they first plated the covers they would have had to clean and etch the aluminum for proper adhesion and it may have gotten micro pitted.
As discussed previously removing the plating is going to be as expensive as getting covers off of Ebay. I may have one or two parts I would be willing to sell since the yare extras, these covers are already polished so its a "bolt on" part.

The issue is that none of us apparently works in the plating industry, so we don't know if it's possible to remove plating from aluminum effectively.

According to the many threads on Google, a plating shop can dip the parts and remove the plating. Looks like Sulphuric acid + electrolysis works on chrome and Nitric acid will remove nickle copper etc.

For what it would cost to get them striped and polished you may just as well buy this lot off Baz.
