Clutch slipping

Hey there. When you adjust the clutch and pull the lever does the piece that screws against the push rod come back towards you when toy pull the clutch lever. Mine isn't releasing the clutch when I adjust it like that. The piece comes towards me 1st (when I pull clutch lever) then goes in towards the push rod. But isn't enough tension to release the clutch.
