Re: new bike!!
i will definately check the site with the info.. thank you .. and once i seen the style of the rod bearing it would only make sense that it would have some movement.. im pretty sure mine need changed though tbh. seems like a decent amount there..

Re: new bike!!
Rod bearings rarely need replaced. Make sure you're not confusing rock with side play.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Re: new bike!!
when i grab the connecting rod at the pin .. it moves side to side .. thats what im talking about with side to side movement. seems like some more then others... unless they all move like that and some have more gunk in then others... should be splittin the case today and soaking in kerosene.. due to the nastyness down here

Re: new bike!!
I hope the crank isnt rusty at all where the bearings and seals are as any kind of rust will quickly ruin a crank , the rust will eat up the seals and destroy the bearings .
the older i get the faster i was

Just a tip if you want to upload photos easily, open a free photobucket account and upload your images to their website, then you can just copy and paste the link to your photos in your messages here in whatever size/quality you want.
Good luck on your 550 rebuild. I will be doing a very similar thing to mine here shortly when I can get my hands on a decent crank or someone to rebuild mine :/

You guys are being way to nice!! The truth is the thing is trashed!! by the way your describing it. You may as well take the engine completely down to nothing and work from there. More than likely going to have to send the crank out and least have the seals replaced. This is work most of us cant do ourselves. They can tell you if your rods are bend or the bearings are bad. Any rust pitting on the bearings and they will need replacement. Pistons are probably going to have to be bored to 1st over and matching pistons installed. all gaskets and seals along the way. Your looking at a lot of work for sure. Probably not a good idea to start unless you can commit to going all the way. And that's just the engine part. I don't want to" rain on your parade" but may as well know from the start!! It will suck you in!!

When it comes down to it you are probably right. BUT, those who get bit by the bug sometimes never even had a choice to begin with!2strokelove wrote:You guys are being way to nice!! It'll be an uphill battle from the sounds of jsquibby's description, but if he has the determination, free time, expendable funds, it's always a pleasure to see these bikes get back on the road.

Try to post some pictures so we can see what you're dealing with?

Kerosene WILL NOT remove rust. In fact, it won't even touch it.
