What brand & model of gel battery is it? How much use did you get out of it?

Gel batteries need better voltage control than other types of batteries.
You should use a charger that specifically mentions that its compatible with gel batteries.
You should also check to make sure the voltage regulator is adjusted properly.

I haven't found gel batteries to last as long as they should given the price.
Have had much better results with AGM batteries, which are also cheaper.
