price

Post by rbond »

That comes to $245.00 a bearing!!! I am pretty sure there is a cheaper alternative than Pedros. If this is an example of his pricing, of course there will be little interest. Despite the apparently large amount of T/GT500's still running the roads, it simply shows the reliability of the bikes in not needing to be rebuilt much........

Pedro - Mind the language please.

Roger - The center bearing on a T500 is rather specialized with a bearing centered in a rather large sleeve with a pair of o-ring grooves, a retaining pin indent, and an oil passage hole or two. It's no longer available from the dealer and the side bearings are NLA as well.

In theory you could hire a machine shop here to make an aluminum sleeve to press a standard bearing into. But at $70 to $90 an hour for labor, you'd get pretty close to that $245 (actually $252 as per xe.com today) in three hours. Unless you own a machine shop or a lathe, a press, and some talent. This is a useful resource for those that can afford it. Sadly, with the current job market and the exchange rate it's often easier to pick up another T500 engine or crank and hope the bearings are good than to track down NOS bearings or scrape up the cash for a reproduction bearing.

back in 2003 these were selling for£90($138)
so the price now I would say yes a bit expensive but it the only bearing you'll ever buy! so I don't think thats to bad.
personly I would rather buy that than the alloy casing one.
the amount of money restorers spend on getting there bikes better shipshape than the original ones, pointless cutting corners in the engine department.
hell we need the likes of Pedro to keep these bikes going.
I only know to well how tight arse and picky some folks are.
you want the best then pay ya money!
don't take any notice Pedro and don't let them get to you.
you'll always find a couple who will disagree .
if folks want things bad enough they will pay it.john

Pedro's comment.'Hence my reaction to posts from penny pinching rectal orrifices with no concept of the subject they comment on.' After seeing his reasons for his outburst, I probably would have too. However, I am not a penny pinching whatever, I am a common person who does not make a lot of money to throw around just 'because'. I do fully understand not cutting corners for engine internal parts, too important. There is another UK based company making repro outside bearings for the T500/GT500's that still need a little work to fit. Compare to normal bearings the center repro is very expensive for an average guy to afford. I am not trying to belittle your efforts to make quality repro parts, but simply stating there is always an alternative to everything. I also fully understand the costs in using a machine shop to prototype and assembly line (somewhat) reproduction parts for which they are not really equipped for limited runs. It was only a comment, not an attack on you personally, nor belittling your efforts, but like others on this board applaud your efforts in ability both financial and mechanical experience. It takes all of us, wherever we live, to help keep this hobby(?) of old bikes going. The fellow in Australia with some T500 stuff, a board member in France doing repro dust boots, I have built CDI boxes for the GT500's, other parts and tricks others have here is nothing short of tremendous help. Not trying to sound cliche, but necessity is the mother of invention and always ;think outside the box'. You never know when another avenue presents itself to get something done or a new and better way to do a certain procedure. I would rather know you on this board as a friend, than someone to avoid posts to. So, having rambled on for a while, can we start over? :D

Yes, he is and it's a pity that "Pedro" didn't manage to be as polite. He comes here to sell and that's fine and when someone made a comment he didn't like he was exceptionally rude. To his credit he apologized - but to Kim and not to Mr bond who he attacked.

Sorry Pedro, you need to learn from Miss Manners.

since 6 month, as I don't find any central bearing I machined 3 with a 6306 TN9 C3, it's a little expensive but very good.
In future i will do that on new iron tube to try to do less expensive

The bearind 6306 TN9 is expensive at him self.
I do 3 bearings (rest now 1 or 2)with the origine "bush", external bearing, but this iron is realy too hard and the machined has cost, in future in few days I will do with normal iron to try to do less expensive but always in polyamid.
All that to explane the price 205€ and the exchange €/$ is in this moment not so interesting for you, so, I understand, it's a little expensive.
For the moment, I don't find any external bearing...so I do that

THose bearings cannot be machined whithout poliamid and the price is less expensive but they are more difficult to do . I sale one for 120€
the machined as the central, soon in normal iron .
Those bearings are SKF explorer, do in Italy, they are good made, I know them, and I am shure of me
There are those 3 bearings in my cranckshaft....whith longer con rods...

Just curious - who made the bearings originally ?

I ask as last year I was looking to source a bearing for the GT550 which was a Koyo part - when I contacted Koyo directly and gave them the number off the bearing, they gave me a quote for them no trouble at all as well as a copy of the spec sheet for it. There was the small issue of having to buy 80 of them though, which gave me cause to pause ! The thing is the unit price for that quantity was about $17.00 USD each, and they would have been as per the original Suzuki specification with slinger ring etc. and I've seen them go for well over $100 each on flea bay as they have been NLA for ages from Suzuki.

I didn't need 80 of them so I let it pass as the bearing I had was OK, but for these ones being discussed to fit the T500, has anyone actually approached the original supplier and asked the question ??? 8)

HIC does those bearings andthey don't do any those bearings.
Take the example of the Yam 125 drt, trz, tdr and also 200 blaster or tdr...they have a special bearing....it's a 6305 1mm narrower thinner and yam sell today about 80€ for only one.
If you put an "adaptable" NTN I thing, it is not good, they do it on a 6206 with a bush bigger and if you run normaly with an athena kit for your 125(170cm3)...you will not do more than 3000km, preaps also 1000.
For this bearing, I find the solution to machined one 6305 TN9 C3 or C4, but it cost about the same price

I can't tell if you've answered my question or not - sorry. When you talked to HIC, what was their response ?

yes it was there answer, today HIC do silent blocks.
If you are better than me to explane in engish that you need those bearings and so on...I give you the differents numbers of this bearing but I think they are not any machines to do them.
The matter with bearings is also the clearance and the iron type...Pedro have find a solution, an expensive solution (for his bank count), but he has play also with the fire, or play pocker, like you want, there is the risk that they are prehaps not good, with the chinese market every thing is possible, I hope for him his bearings goods...I write that because if you made bearing by HIC but making in china the problem will be the same.
See ceramics bearings...americains are good...expensive but good, do you know the quality of the chinese ? :?    .
The problem is the same with the 500 T con rods...i find a french societe witch can do them for 10 pieces...not so expensive...but...they have not good reputation in the past of there job...what do you think I do...I don't like to play pocker and I find another solution, preharps more expensive but a good solution.
