What's with the Harley Riders

Post by CJF »

I was out on a long ride Sunday in the Lancaster country side. It was one of those riding days that make you happy to be alive and wondering why everyone doesn't ride a bike. I rode for hours over rolling hills, down winding roads overlooking perfectly manicured Amish farm land. On my ride, I past a few bikers. Some were Harleys, some Jap, some German. I can find something to like with every bike manufacturer out there....doesn't matter to me, it's all good.

I'm sure you are all familiar with the customary rider wave. I exchanged this wave with every rider except the harley riders(because that is the Harley rider wave law apparently!!??).

Here is a question I began to ponder on my ride and i thought I'd share.
I know there are guys out there that own multiple bikes and some own harleys along with other bike brands. Do you think they follow the "Harley rider wave law" when on their Harley and then break that law when on their non-Harley bike?

I'm not sure they can afford to release their grip on the bars.... they might fall off.

Its some sort of 'thing' with the average Harley owner. When we were in the Gap this year all the sport bike and touring riders would wave when passing, no issues there, but the majority of Harley riders in groups going in the opposite direction would not wave.
It was as if we were taking up their right to ride on the road and were a nuisance, so when we came up behind a set we just dusted them out.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Just remember ... it ain't the bike that's the issue (that's just cheap nasty metal) it's the personality of the individual drawn to that particular brand. Therein lies the real reason of the non-wave. :P

Oh, exactly the same thing happens down here at the bottom of the world as well!
