Favorite two stroke injection oil
This subject was probably done to death before the great web site crash, but now it's difficult to retrive the old information.
What is your fav' two stroke oil for the CCI system.
Last Sunday the local bike stores were closed so I bought some plain 'ol Castrol 2T from Pep Boys. There has been a significant increase in blue smoke ever since. I think I remember using Torco Smokeless before and being happy with that.
Maybe we can do a poll?
Is there anything inexpensive, for injection systems, and smokeless, that smells like Castrol R? It's a well known fact that after a medium length ride you are going to smell like your two stroke oil. I remember a friend telling me back in the 80's, that he was in a pub, and a couple of bikers walked in smelling like two stroke oil, sure enough when they got outside there was a GT750 in the parking lot.
What is your fav' two stroke oil for the CCI system.

Silkolene Scoot Sport 2 for me. Its spec is identical to the "motorcycle" variant (I've checked the detailed spec sheets) but it's £1 UK cheaper per litre because it's aimed at the teenage scooter market.
It's a semi-synth, JASO FC certified. Zero smoke and nil carbon deposits in the exhaust port or cylinder head.

I was using Silkolene semi-synth, but it ended up getting a bit expensive.
I've changed to Shell 2T - mineral, but relatively inexpensive and virtually smokeless
, much less than the Silkolene stuff.
I'm not one for the synth/semi-synth hype. IF I was racing a GT (or any two-stroke for that matter) I would consider it for sure.
But, for a stock, road-going GT750, IMHO it's a waste of money.

I broke my 550 in on Lucas outboard oil. I am now running Silkolene. It's pricey, but I don't ride it much so it's not am issue.
In the old blog someone posted that after 10 years of use there was zero carbon build up when he tore it dowm for rebuild. That sold me.

I don't know about relative prices in other countries, but in the UK, there's usually only one UK pound ($1.60) price difference between a litre of brand-name mineral 2T (Shell, Castrol, Rock, Silkolene, Motul etc) and a litre of brand-name semi-synth that has higher JASO / ISO certifications.
So a lot of UK riders tend to use the semi-synth. There IS, however a big price jump to full synthetic lube (75% higher) which is hard to justify, as the JASO / ISO certifications are usually the same.

Shell Snow ultra synthetic seems to work wonders in the Buffalo as does Bardahl VBA.
I know Uncle H2 will be very happy i mentioned the red stuff in the yellow bottle.
Fred (buffalo-guy) uses Amsoil products and while ive yet to try any personally, his word on the fact is good enough for me.

The Shell Advance S2 description says it is available "pre-diluted" or "undiluted".
I am not 100% sure, but I *think* this means you get one version suitable for premix (oil in fuel), and the other version is for oil injection systems.
I am pretty sure you will be OK with the oil you have ... premix oil is usually just a little bit thicker (higher viscosity).

I don't think there is really a right answer on the oil. The worst oil today is still better than what was available when the bikes were new. I have used Honda HP2 but stopped as it is clear and hard to see in the window. I have been using CCI for years (over 100K miles). When I tore the motor down everything was still in great shape except the one crank seal.

Almost any oil will work, but try to avoid PWC oil which is specially fomulated to work on watercraft and snowmobile oils. I know that Allan recommends it, but it is very thin and designed to still flow at well below freezing conditions that most of us don't ride in.
The risk, albeit slight, is that it is thin enough to leak through the pump and fill the crankcase.
I don't think Allan has had any trouble with that, but I'd play safe. I have bottle of all sorts of 2 stroke oil here and for a low stress street motor, I use whatever I grab first.
Of course if you have loosened off the oil pump adjustment, then stick to a better semi synthetic.
The risk, albeit slight, is that it is thin enough to leak through the pump and fill the crankcase.

Richard im not sure if youve seen the Shell Snow Ultra but its not thin viscositywise when compared to the Bardahl VBA or the Suzuki CCI versions.
They must have added some goodies to prevent it gelling at the lower temps.
I wish someone would make an injection oil that smells like the old Castrol R30.

Hi Craig, i'm also in the uk, the P O of my bike was running it on silkolene comp 2 + sx, which is £13.50 a litre, according to the spec sheets it is identical to the scoot sport 2 you mention which is £7.99 a litre, if i run mine down to nearly empty do you think i will be able to swap to scoot oil without stripping and cleaning the lines etc ?, cheers Mick.
