New brake pads don't fit.
I just ordered new pads from ebay. They are packaged by pyramid parts, part number FA55. They appear to be the correct pads, but are just sligtly wider then the old pads. The difference is less then a millameter. Is it safe to sand around the edge of the pads till they fit? Is there something else that could be done?

That's true,
But they are the same diameter aren't they?
Yes, it's OK to sand around the outer edges or to take some off the face if you have to . The pads must be a sliding fit in the calipers with enough room to expand and move. There is often a small amount of adhesive that squeezes out to the outer edge and it's Ok to clean that off.
