Heres what to do, fit on another one and try to "condition" it, by this i mean ride the bike in a normal fashion where youre NOT ripping the hell out of it to the tune of 60mph.
See if it will last this way for about a few rides, if its still there after a couple hundred miles, then go blasting again to see if it melts off.
Lets face it, you cant worry about melting them up if they are melting regardless of how you ride, and keeping them to look at is pointless too.
Second option,,,, Recently i came across a graphite collar about that size when working on a 07 Honda CRF 250, this collar is used on the rear twin resonators to the main mid pipe junction.
You may be able to retofit this graphite collar to your bike using clamps or spring collars,,,,,, its worth looking into.

I got a great deal on a JT sprocket for my GT250 from atvunlimited and had it in 3 days.
Yeah it's kinda weird, but the catalogs have the GT numbers, but not the T500 ones. Then when you start making phone calls you find there's hardly anybody that deals the T500 sprockets.

That is what I was thinking. Thanks for clarifying the battery/eliminator part also. It should be a very simple setup.

Loses Power

Post by Admin »

I have a Suzuki T500J that keeps losing power after it warms up. Starts fine, idles fine and goes down the road fine, until it heats up then no go. Still runs but no power at all.

Any ideas?

Yup, cleaning the carbs works wonders!

:rbanana:

So I stripped the carbs completely and dumped the bodies in a bucket of solvent for three days. Spent about thirty minutes scrubbing them with a toothbrush, the solvent, and really hot water.

Sprayed out all the passageways with carb cleaner.

Dried it, put it back together.

Attached an inline filter in the fuel line (clear, so I can see any junk in it).

Sprayed some carb cleaner into the throats to 'jump start' it.

Got the idle set about 1100rpm.

She now kicks over great!

Time to pull the right cover and pulled the clutch basket apart (it's frozen).

Brad,

Glad to hear it lives again!!!!!

Believe me the fuel filter is well worth whatever you paid for it.

Dog leg Levers?????

Post by Admin »

Can someone tell me where I can get a set of dog leg levers for my 380?

I have seen them on a vendor's web site. But I can't remember where!

Guess I'm having a senior moment.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I'd start by checking the fuel tap filter is clear, the breather hole in the fuel filler cap is clear, and the float heights are correct.

Is it running stock exhausts, air filters etc?

If it starts OK from cold then that's usually a sign that the choke works, it seems to have a rich enough mixture at idle and low-speed.

Other possibilities might be a coil that drops out when hot, and perhaps a leaking crank seal.

Does it smoke a lot?

Any experienced GTT380 owners in the DC/B-more area?

Post by Admin »

I finally got it to run smoothly, but I hear a sound from the right side of the engine that I don't hear on the left.

I have absolutely NO experience with these bikes, so I don't know if it's a normal sound or something to worry about.

If any body lives close by that wouldn't mind coming and listening to it and give me your opinion, I'd be in your debt!

Is it a tick over sound going togheter with engine speed? That's the revolving points cam; plus, right there there is the primary transmission producing his own noise.

check your points, there is a little felt pad that's supposed to be oiled to lube the rub blocks for the points when they run on the points cam, it can squeal when dry.
