I think the air boot was also slightly different between the early and late models

I think your right - I tried to fit it the other night and it wouldn't go on correctly.

Back to the part of your question about which gasket to use. Among the various modifications to the M to increase performance, Suzuki fitted a thinner head gasket.

In practice, all the aftermarket gasket sets I bought, include a thick J/K/L gasket.

Thanks,
I'm going to polish sans taking the head off, but if it comes down to that I think I'll take up Gordons offer and buy the copper gasket he has. Boy this "refresh job" is turning into into a never ending task. It's been totally plauged by "mightaswell" disease and to think it ws running when I got it! Still gonna try and make the Gap though. :!:

Its best you pull the head and do all remedial work to it now, even check the bores for scores and decarbonise/clean up as well while its off.
Then get one of the newer style thinner gaskets or one of Daves nifty copper ones.
Yeah i know its more of the "might as well" disease but this is one time you MIGHT AS WELL do this work since the engines out.

Steve, Where are you from? I have an air box from a 1971 that I am not using. Should be the same as a 1972, but if anyone else knows different let me know.

Someone With a 'J' model Buffalo...

Post by Admin »

...could I trouble you to photograph the top so I can see the top stripe placement, please? And could you measure the stripe width? I'm getting ready to do the body pieces for my 'J' (the one that Ed's doing). BTW, I'm doing it in the gold colour of the European version.

I have a recently painted tank to photo graph. Or if interested I have an extra stripe kit but in white not black.

Just checked and the gold J had white stripes. $50 for the tape kit if interested.

I've got the kit already, but thanks. It doesn't include the two top stripes, though.

I actually have a tank (rough) that I can send you and then you can get the stripes perfect. Let me know.
