The ONLY parts that I have ever had reason to contribute to the tree were from that wreck...and I wasn't within 5 miles of the bike when the parts were "conditioned" for enshrinement on the tree.

Sooo kewl! I just realized that this was the way to get an update on the GWB, without waiting for Terry to maybe keep me posted!

Russ, I can't wait to just hear the GWB now, let alone see it ride again. John and Gordon, God bless you, dudes! I can contest that John can do this with one eye tied behind his back.... I have seen it, and it ain't pretty.

I still have some issues to iron out, too, but nothing that is going to keep me in the garage, and nothing that should keep me on the shoulder of the road. Carbs to clean... that should be it. The Honda is screaming! And packing to do, which I heard Terry has us all beat on (again!)

We Going!

PS got a new modular helmet, so that I can smoke while driving, behind the fairing. This year, we only stop for gas! (he he!) I still want to weld a peg on the kick, so that I can reach it under the pipes (incase we do stop for a pee, or something... I put on a back rest and cruiser pegs, so that I can take a nap on the highway.

I also am installing blinker indicators, high on the fairing, so this dummy does not forget to turn 'em off... I looked at electronic canceling, but I am cheap.

Actually, as you might know, coming back from the Deals Gap, last year, I holed a piston. I have all of the parts, but this CB750 has hogged all of my wrenching time (as well as a Savage which is about done, too.)

As for the GT550, it will ride again this summer. I will give it the attention that it deserves, right after changing the timing chain on my son's CL450. All of this happens AFTER Deals Gap....

JOHN- I got your message, Sir. Sorry I have not returned (yet.) I have spent every waking and free moment wrenching.

As for the kick weld, it's done. Also fixed a loose baffle. I had visions of it sliding out in southern Ohio on the highway, skidding along like a torpedo and taking out a car full of Hoosiers on vaction. It's not a small one, like the GT's, but a bigger one, like a a vacuum cleaner. Also did some touch up painting, adjusting, and tightening.

RUSS, sorry things are still not done, I am sure you will get there. I am in the same boat. After tearing down the carbs, I discovered bad gaskets AND the wrong sized main jets. I ordered up new kits, rebuilt the carbs, and got them in, this weekend, which was no small order. If anyone has ever worked on the four pack for a CB750, they'll know what I mean.

Still have to adjust the carbs, reinstall the fairing, change the oil, and pack, pack, pack.

We are gonna have a terrific time!

Oh yeah, as for the sand...

You've heard that rust never sleeps? Well, sand breeds.

I got 5 feet of two different sizes of chain, removed and emptied the tank to about a quart, dropped in the chain, and shook it around for 15 minutes. I drained the tank, and got sand.

I removed the chain, put in fresh gas, shook it around, drained it, and got sand.

I put on a new high capacity Pingel with a removeable element, rode it for a couple of hours, and got more sand out.

I cleaned the Pingel, put it back on, rode it some more, and got more sand.

I removed the tank, got a large siphon pump, and with a long copper tube at the end, I siphoned the tank like ten times. Got LOTS of sand. I kept this up until i got no sand.

Keep this in mind. I have cleaned this tank out several time previously, and ... always got sand. As you know, after that, we went for a ride, and we clogged the filter like 5 times.

THIS TIME I think I got it all. IF I even have an idea that there is a problem, I will take this tank into the back yard, stick a rag into it, light it and run. I will let you guys know when I plan to do this, in case you want to come and watch.
