Love the way you've modded that frame. The extra gusseting at the top of the new frame tubes is a quality touch. Looks like it was made that way from new! I'll bet it will handle superb.

thanks you three
glad somebody is interested. this is a genuine shed-built bike. no fancy stuff like cnc. i cut the tubing by hand and filled it full of sand, took it to a bloke who reckoned he could do all the bends for it, but only managed 2 on each leg. then charged me £20
took the tubes to another bloke who clamped them up, put some heat on them and i bent them by eye to where i thought they should be, and they turned out pretty damned good, if i say so myself
that cost me nowt, but he told me never to darken his doorstep again
emptied the sand out, ground and filed the end of the tubes [notched them] till they butted up perfectly and took the frame and tubes down to a mate - with one arm - turned the frame upside down and welded the tubes on - again by eye. they turned out perfect. after measuring here there and everywhere when i got back in the shed, both sides were the same to the nearest [less than a] millimetre, so i made the crossmember and all the gusset plates and had them welded in, including the big front one with the hole in it for the wiring etc to go through. this has now got a grommet fitted. all good fun and cost me a couple of pints. i've always done things like this by eye - it's what they are for
glad you like the colour, because the wheels are the same, and both wheels blasted, primered and powdercoated cost me £50, which i thought was excellent value. all in all i'm quite chuffed with what i've achieved
and i haven't gone over my £1000 budget yet [i'm not including the gt350 engine in that].

Cool. Thanks. I will give them a try next time. I've use Maldon Shot-blasting before and have not been very impressed with the quality of their work. They don't seem to have any common sense; shot-blasting obviously freshly skimmed gasket surfaces while doing the cooling fins on a cylinder head for example. Blasting the inside of the crankcases when they only needed the outside doing etc. The list goes on. I might have put up with that if I was paying peanuts, but they charge a fair wedge for their services.

his prices have dropped since he got his own blaster. off the top of my head i think i paid £100 for the frame and swingarm to be blasted, primed and powdercoated chrome and £40 for 9 other bits in black, including stands, yokes etc. good set of lads

Nice wavy disc. Are you putting gt250 clocks on because the Kwakersaki ones won't fit the engine?

it's already got gt250 clocks on it
BUT i bought a brand new kwak gpx250 speedo inner for less than £10 and sat there a couple of days with bits of different clocks until it all fitted together and the trip worked. quite pleased with it. i've got a bit of a crappy photo somewhere. i'll be back when i found it.

well as correct as suzuki and kawasaki clocks can be
so how did i get the trip meter out the side, when it faces forwards? by removing a tiny 'e' clip and pulling the forward facing bit off. found a long necked trip meter knob out of my box of clock spares, drilled it out to 3mm, pressed it over the 3mm shaft from the clock and bob's yer uncle. works perfectly. you just give it about 1/8th of a turn and it resets
didn't even need to get the gorrilla glue out, it fits that tight.

I'm not sure the upper reaches of that speedo will see much use, but you'll have fun trying.
