Hi dd,

Both crew and rider were a bit rusty, we had a busy 3 days getting up to speed. We've had good results at Pembrey so we are looking forward to it.

We raced at Pembrey last weekend. 2 x 3rd, 2nd and a win.

Not too bad but the bikes performance fell into two categories 1. Going good 2. I don't know?

1. The engine performed strongly on all days, I only changed main jets once (1 leaner as temp came up on Sunday p.m.)

2. The high falulootin Seeley chassis and bling Maxton suspension was giving spincter tightening chatter which prevented Gary from exploiting the engine. We never found a cure for it. The front end is being stripped and serviced (and returned to factory settings so we can start again)

We had a Marquee pit, with electric (handy for the fan heater in the van at night too  )

Well were out at the CRMC Classic Festival at the weekend with Richard Llewellin riding. An encouraging start is that the suspension issue with the forks has been solved. The not quite so positive news is the it took us until the last race on Sunday to finally get the jetting near right. Conditions were very humid and hot and we somehow lost 2000 rpm on our usual baseline settings. Eventually solved by going down from 360 to 320 mains (and could have gone leaner still). 2nd in the last race and if Richard had a bit more practise at getting it off line we would have been challenging for the win.

We also shared our pit with these two miscreants

A genuine Hailwood Honda RC174 and a George Beale replica.

Dang noisy little so an so's though :D

Hmmm, well over a year since the last update. Not any racing for us in 2020, I guess the same as lot of folk across the spectrum of activities. We did a test day at Castle Combe to check out a pull to right under braking. This "pull" appeared after some frame repairs and I was concerned the bike would have to go off to a MotorLiner jig. However it would seem the chief mechanic didn't settle the stantions in the yolks correctly and had them slightly twisted. That mechanic better pull his socks up for 2021 :D .

I have changed the engine back to the original 34mm carb version, re-built after the Cadwell big end failure. It also received an update to the porting from the very mild work done initially to the same spec. as the full race 38mm engine. The pipes have also been updated, seeking a higher rev range.

We took mine and Gary's bike to Dynotech (Basingstoke) on Tues 28 Oct. I have still to receive the final graphs but:

My revised engine:

66 RWHP @ 8350 rpm
44 ft/lbs Torque (didn't spot the rpm)

Garys Bike:

56 RWHP with 34mm carbs
44 ft/lbs Torque

Gary's engine uses std.heads etc. If he had my kit I'm sure his results would have been very similar to mine. Not bad for an engine he tuned himself on the kitchen table  .

Cheers Geoff

As you say, this year has been a waste of time mainly.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
