Super Eliminator is interested in further developing their Stock and Modified classes bring new racers to their venue. Best place to start out is at the AmSnow event in September...a true Sportsman event. A couple of us on this board are available anytime with advise and support for anyone interested in joining SE. We can provide information and details to allow you to pass tech inspection and walk you through the event from how to stage to competing. Post any questions on this thread.

...these are the IHRA General Rules for Sportsman Motorcycle. In addition to these rules:

1. Glycol based coolant is prohibited.
2. A front fender or fork brace is required.
3. Working tail light is required and must be used after dusk.
4. Rear wheel fender must extend to rear axle or beyond.

The main rules specify 2 stroke.....but....
The first letter stated 2 and 4 stroke....but within a certain time period or style.
Is there anything more specific yet about what 4 stroke is legal or fits within the opinions of the officials....seems pretty open as written?
Just any bike that is from the 90's or older?

On a lighter note, I notice that nowadays I would be classed HH - without any race gear.

Busa,

You will be fine with any 4-stroke in your collection at the AmSnow Shootout. That would be the place to start. The ManCup events require bikes to run off the current National Record.

Super Eliminator is a class that originally ran in the IDBA Sanction which fomed in the mid 1970’s and folded shortly after the 1999 season. Today, Super Eliminator is loosely based on the IDBA structure, but we now use current IHRA rules for General Safety and associated Sportsman Motorcycles Rules which I posted above.

During the time that IDBA operated, there were established classes for both 2 and 4-stroke bikes so rules and records existed for all bikes during that period. A few years after IDBA folded, Super Eliminator re-emerged as a 2-stroke only class and remained that way until 2014. Then, a deal was struck with the Manufacturers Cup and Super Eliminator allowed both 2 and 4 stroke bikes specifically at ManCup events while events held in MI remained 2-stroke only.

This year, Super Eliminator will include 2 and 4 stroke bikes at all their scheduled events. Our goal is to promote bikes from the 1970s through the 90’s. But don’t be surprised to see a turbo-busa or other modern bike.

What bike are you thinking about running in SE?

In all honesty I have no bike that will come close to any records.
But I do have some old bikes that used to be fast.
4 stroke...the only two I have that fit the philosophy/spirit, would be the 79 CBX or 78 GS1000.
The CBX is definitely the faster of the two and already has a airshifter and engine kill....but I need to get the head off and reseat one of the intake valves. The GS needs new clutch plates, before it would be launched hard, and a quick dyno tune for the 29 smoothbores.
2 stroke bikes....I'll be getting my RZV500R this next week, so after I uncrate it, I'll have a better idea what it will take to get it on the road or track. If it turns out that I bought a money pit.....then it would be the Aprilia RS or RZ350...

I plan on doing some track days with the RS this year, so I know that should be running good if all else fails.

I guess committing myself to 3 full days at the track would be the biggest unknown.
Although 131 is not that far from home, and Kalamazoo is a great place to hang out after the track.

All bikes mentioned can be seen throughout this thread

Busa,

The CBX would be very cool to see...especially since our class sponsor is Cycle-X.

http://www.cyclexchange.net

But every bike you have would be cool to see. Remember, at the US-131 AmSnow Shootout, you dial in your own ET and that’s the number you try to hit. It’s only at the ManCup events that you chase the national record.

Also, some guys will arrive at the track on Friday night and make a test pass during the evening as part of the test n tune session. Saturday is qualifying generally goes all day. On Sunday, half the field will be headed home around lunch time...but we all try to avoid that.

Randy,
Bring the CBX. That would be good to see and hear.
