Sorry to hear that.
I bought an Electrosport ESR770 rectifier/regulator for my GT380. Had high voltage so I replaced it with a different brand & got a good 14.1V.
I considered returning the ESR770 but ended up just throwing it out.

That is not good news.
I will get back to the supplier and see what resolution he can offer.
I assume from your statement and what you done there is nothing that can be done to resolve or remedy the situation.
Unfortunately at present I cannot afford to purchase a replacement so will need to wait until that is possible.

In your opinion what can happen were I to use the bike with the installed rectifier/regulator until I can replace it?
Do you know of a reputable supplier for a replacement in the UK/Europe as anything purchased from the USA carries an import duty charge.

Electrex in the UK has an RR77 rectifier/regulator for the GT-series triples.
I have no experience with it. Perhaps some UK/Europeans members could weigh in with their experience.

If you have a stock bike then your lights will be a bit brighter but won’t last as long. Points might wear out a bit faster too.
But that high voltage is hard on batteries.
Do you have a link that shows exactly what battery you have?

The bike runs on stock electrics and a Newtronic electronic ignition not points. As the standard headlight is not that great I was thinking of re-installing a spot light which uses a H3/55W bulb.

The battery is a conventional vented battery that you can top off. That type of battery can tolerate higher voltages.
Make sure you have the vent hose connected & leading to underneath the bike.

I do not know what the Newtronics voltage limit is.
