t500 engine

Post by stevebee »

have started to rebuild a 1971 motor . I purchased 1976 engine cases and have noticed the 71 oil filler is screwed into the case, the 76 is push in. was thinking of taking case to a machine shop and have them tap a thread for me or does the 76 push in have a dipstick . steve

No dipstick on the (GT500) push-in oil filler plug I'm told, - just use the little screw lower down to check oil level.
(There must have been a reason they didn't include a dipstick, mystery to me though).

Aren't the 76 cases milled differently in the stator area for the PEI ignition versus the points system on the 71.
