T500 Fuel Tap Adapter
The M22 fine pitch adapter nut between the fuel tank and the petcock has a damaged thread. I have kept it going with liberal applications of PTFE tape, but now the nut thread is beyond bodge. So I need a new adapter nut. It doesn't appear to have been available separately looking at the T500 parts book. The adapter is M22 fine pitch right hand female to M22 fine pitch left hand female.
Does anyone have an idea where I could source such an adapter, otherwise it is £200 for a new petcock from discountbikespares - ouch

Re: T500 Fuel Tap Adapter
I am going to throw a few things out here. Breaker/junkyard, Pingel fuel valve( not cheap, but oh so lovely to use), Maybe Hylomar M sealant after a good cleaning instead of ptfe.

Re: T500 Fuel Tap Adapter
Hi Jim
Thanks
The thread is too worn for sealant unfortunately and if I'm going to buy a new petcock, I might as well buy this one in the UK https://www.discountbikespares.co.uk/ou ... -T250.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So as you suggest, it is looking like it will be something off ebay
Thanks

Re: T500 Fuel Tap Adapter
A little update..
I found a chap in the US selling new non-vacuum operated fuel taps for the T350, at under 20% of the discountbikespares price delivered duty paid etc. Bargain!
Given that I'm not a fan of these new fangled vac taps, don't trust 'em, work of the devil etc. and it appears to have the correct 22mm adapter, I've gone and ordered one.
Buy cheap, buy twice - we'll see

Are Pingel fuel valves a brand of regular petcocks with a reputation for quality or do they differ in function somehow? They aren't cheap!Jimroid wrote:I am going to throw a few things out here. They aren't cheap are they!
By the time I've paid delivery and duty and all the other taxes that magically appear, I would be well over budget.
The website isn't the easiest to navigate either - I assume the Power-Flo is what I should be looking at, wasn't sure.
For richer or poorer, this is what I've gone for - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172273743043? ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I know the rivet counters will be up in arms, but you've not seen my bike so don't realise that in the scheme of things, a funny fuel tap is not that big a deal

Try aluminium tape wrapped around the threads.
You may have to use aluminum tape - it's similar but with an extra vowel.

This sort of stuff?
http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Self-Adh ... m/p/161265" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Good call, I'd not thought of that.
My action of last resort was going to be old school sisal (I'd probably have tried cotton) wrapped around the threads, a similar idea.

Yep, that should be OK. What you don't use will come in for tying the kids up when they become unruly.
Just noticed you're in Eastbourne, so you'll get the aluminium type, not the US version.

Re: T500 Fuel Tap Adapter
Update:
It arrived, it fitted and it works.
It is slightly narrower than the standard tap, so it's tucked underneath the bottom of the tank a bit, making it harder to reach the tap, but for now I'm rollin' with less chance of a random conflagration

You may look after Kawasaki H1 petcock nut #51035-005, it's identical to Suzuki's part.

Re: T500 Fuel Tap Adapter
Now that is interesting. It's a shame it isn't in the substitute items thread (or if it is I apologise, I didn't see it)argo1974 wrote:You may look after Kawasaki H1 petcock nut #51035-005, it's identical to Suzuki's part.
Unfortunately, the ones on ebay are more expensive than the petcock I purchased, so I'm still ahead financially.
I used to own a Reliant Scimitar, a lot of it's parts were from the BL parts bin and there were lists of alternatives for each item - headlights, door handles etc
It would be nice if something equivalent - thread, database, spreadsheet whatever - was available for these bikes.
It seems the Kawa triples share a lot of parts with our bikes and their parts availability is better than ours.
