1977 ts250

Me and my dad have had a 1977 Suzuki ts250 in the garage for a while. We had it running at one point. It would run fine for a couple minutes and then die. We then couldn't get it to spark. We since have replaced the ignition coil and battery but still have no spark. We can get a small spark when the kill switch is toggled from run to off. I am looking for suggestion or comment on what to do. Thank you

Check the voltage to the points and change the condenser to be going on with.
Do you get a spark across the points? That would be an indication that the condenser is u/s/

Does it have points ? wouldn't it have electronic ignition?
when you say you replaced the ignition coil,do you mean the one at the spark plug or the one in the magneto?

Yes it does have the electronic ignition. We can't figure out why we have spark when we switch the kill switch from on to off. Thank you for your responds.

can you unplug kill switch and try,kill switches can short out

We have unplugged the kill switch ch and still have no spark.

witch ignition coil did you replace,the one at spark plug or in magneto?

We replaced the ignition coil by the spark plug. I just got back from the garage and if I run a wire from where the kill switch connects to ground I have spark. Does this mean I have a bad kill switch? Will this hurt anything if I run it like this?

I really dont know much about the TS,but most bikes with magneto use the kill switch to ground out the ignition to shut off ,I'm not sure I understand where you are running the wire to the kill switch.

The kill switch has one wire running out of it. it then connects to two wires behind the head light. I disconnected the kill switch and then connected these two wires to the frame. I now have spark. I was wondering if this could effect other stuff. Thank you.

Looking at ts250 wiring diagram,it looks like the kill switch should ground out ignition to shut off.If you ground out to get spark, would seem something isn't right.
magneto ignition system should be separate from battery system,so when you say it sparked toggling the kill switch,I wonder if some wiring is crossed up.
Does it have all switches and wiring or were some parts stripped off for dirt?

Every seems to be there. I have have not found a wiring diagram that matches. Do you have a link?

One thing I would suggest is to check ground connections,to the frame,engine,cdi unit,bad ground connections can cause problems.
