Shock recommendations for a GT550?

Post by PHPaul »

I'm assuming the shocks on my project bike are the originals, and after 40+ years and 18,000 miles are due for replacement.

Any and all recommendations for Brands/Models/Sources (US) will be appreciated.

They have them with the long and short spring cover depending on the year of your bike.

Put anything on so long as it's the correct length unless it's a trailer queen.
Plenty about round the 40 quid mark.
Get heavy duty ones if you're a bit porky or you go 2 up regularly.
I've got Hagons on the A, as I don't need original, and pattern on the K to keep the rivet counters away.

I like Hagons, and increasing the length by about 1.5 inches improves handling greatly.

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

The tec site says that longer shocks will damage the (stock?) exhaust - maybe the axle will hit them.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I weigh about 200 pounds and dropping slowly.

A bit longer might be good, I'll keep that in mind.

They may cause axle-drag on stock pipes. I had 1 or 1.5 inch longer Hagons on my stock GT750 (can't remember for sure) and they worked very well. My cafe racer has 13.5" Konis, but with Jemco pipes.
