I so do miss my parts pile .. i mean spare parts supply ...in my garage in Florida , i could hit the garage and find most anything i needed . I know i have 6- '72 intake spickots
but what i really need is the carb mount attached to the reed cover like this only 3 ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARCTIC-CAT-ZR-4 ... cb&vxp=mtr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Here i go again ..
Dave, When you machined off that left cover and removed the points shaft, what did you do to the inside? Is it all hollowed out or was it "sliced off"? It it was just sliced off, it's possible to machine what's left to work like a TR750 inner cover to locate the ignition backing plate.Suzukidave wrote:Problem with that option is i would have to put a stock points side cover back on the engine , with the block centered in the frame it puts that side even more out so with what i have cut off the points side cover it balances the engine width .. problems , problemstz375 wrote:Newtronics is probably the easiest option and you can eliminate a lot of their wiring if you wire it yourself. The harness they ship with is really long. You can also wire it to use stock connector blocks (or replacements at least) for a tidy install.

Modifying a stock cover leaves a few holes that oil mist can escape through, but that's not the end of the world. If it's hollowed out, you can use a trigger wheel attached to the crank and will have to work out a way to mount the pickup. You could probably weld a strip of 1" x 0.250" aluminum to the cover and drill and tap that to support the pickup coil.
That would not work for a Newtronics that needs clean air to work.

Re: Here i go again ..
I removed the side cover to refresh my mind on just how much i had removed off that points side , it doesnt look like there is any room in there for any electronics

The wiring system is looking a bit more tidy now with a nice fuse block

The original points plate or any replacement ignition will fit over those three bolt holes if they are in the same place as the originals.
Then you need a way to attach the matching trigger to the crank end. You could make up a sleeve nut threaded 10x1.25 at the crank end and 6x1.0 on the outside to take the trigger/rotor.
My side cover is similar to yours but it has been counterbored like a stock cover to provide a place for the points plate to sit.
Or open that up some more and bolt the pickup directly to the machine face or to a plate bolted on the inside

Re: Here i go again ..
I got my last 4 into 1 cable off ebay. If fact I bought two and they were both different. I did have to lengthen or shorten (I don't recall which) one of them to fit those carbs so get some cable ends from Flanders or MikesXS.
Do you have a cable stop on those crankcases or did you have to fabricate one for the oil pump cable?

Re: Here i go again ..
I am looking at getting this cable for the throttle anyways http://www.ebay.com/itm/380791685742?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ..... i already had a cable mount made up so there shouldnt be a problem mounting the oil pump cable .
