There wasn't much chrome on the U50/70, and it was all plated steel. What repro parts are you finding in plated plastic?
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Didn't Bridgestone make a very similar model? Speaking of Bridgestone, there was a twin at the last vintage meet. I believe it was a 185. First one I ever saw. DANG! I didn't get a photo. Maybe it will be at the fall meet. The bike was in showroom condition but I have nothing to compare it to. It had tags and was ridden to the meet. Not a trailer queen. I'm not trying to steal the thread. but where did Bridgestone max out? 250cc? Why did they go belly up? Are the tires made by the 'old' company?

I wouldn't trade mine for anything less than a Ford GT40....................................................model 8)

Bridgestone made two 350's.(GTO, GTR) Very good machines, a little pricey compared to the other Japanese bikes. Yes they are the tire makers, rumor is that Honda told them if they still wanted to continue to supply tires as OEM to Honda, quit making bikes. I actually think it was simply bad marketing strategies that undersold the brand. Had a reputation for higher overall quality than the other bike makers.

Roy Bacon's book shows the U70 as being produced between 1966 and 1968, but take a look at the wheel rims - you may get lucky. If they are Takasago then they usually have a date stamp which can give you a rough idea of manufacture. You have to keep in mind that the rims could have been made quite a bit prior to the bike itself.Take a look at this site, toward the bottom of the page:

Ian,

A poster elsewhere just asked a question on dating codes (rims) so I dropped your link it, with due acknowledgement :-)

Cheers,
Mike
