T250/GT250 Gearbox

Just got the T250 with 73 GT250 engine back from the dealer (whom I wanted to adjust my oiling system, but who did not rebuild the engine). This was the first time trying to ride the bike and I find that I only have 2nd and third gear. It won't go below neutral or above third. The entire engine was rebuilt, new crank, etc. . and the engine builder machine shop said everything in the gear box looked good when they had it apart. It shifted through the gears before I had the engine built. Looking for clues as to what might be wrong.

OK, I see the diagram and the intent of the shifting pawl, neutral brake, etc., but assuming nothing is broken, what can be adjusted?

Assuming everything was put back in correctly (always a risky assumption ) then after checking that the shifter pawl is working correctly as Dave offered, I'd suggest looking at the neutral/stopper (24631-18010) on the underside on the case is a) actually there, and b) is fitted correctly. If it has not been installed correctly, then you will have to figure out where neutral actually is first, and then install it with the stopper plunger and spring etc. If it still doesn't work, then you likely will have to pull the engine and split it again to figure out what is actually going on.

There isnt a adjustment but the shift rod should be set up like this ( this is a GT750 picture but it should be similar )

OK - so then on to Plan B.

Neutral stop looks ok. What would make it not ok?

I will contact the machine shop tomorrow. If they give a hard time the bike with be for sale. It is a 71 T250 (orange). Paint is in good shape. It has new tires (about a mile of riding), rebuilt forks, new rear shocks. rebuilt engine (with rebuilt crank from Paul Miller Suzuki) carbs on it are stock, be cleaned and rejetted. I have two new Mikuni VM 26s in box jetted for the T250/GT250 engine. Has pod filters as p/o lost the air box. New Wiseco pistons. Starts on first of second kick. Have extra parts. Runs real nice. Have all receipts. Make offer (cash or trade). Health issues forces sale. I cannot deal with continuing this project.
