Updated my 73 GT250 with braided steel brake line + new aftermarket pads + slotted rotor. Provides as nice improvement.

Used a slotted '80-'83 Suzuki GS-series rear brake rotor. Center section looks correct for the GT250 & the slot pattern is setup for use on right side.

Keep an eye on the eBay listings & eventually you'll see a good rotor at a good price.

Thanks for sharing, that is great to know. Quick question, on your steel braided line, did you keep that metal piece that goes to the caliper, or did you get a long enough line to go straight to the caliper with a proper fitting?

Ill keep an eye out for the slotted rotor, thanks for sharing. My rotor looks good, but I wouldn't mind an upgrade.

I just received the gauge glass from Cole Parmer (thanks to this site) and a universal petcock. I didn't realize that the 1974 tank petcock was different than the 1976 petcock, and the tank im getting painted is the 1976 one. So I bought an universal petcock for the 76' tank (with the nut fitting). hopefully it works fine. I bought the 24mm and 22mm nut (I didn't have the tank to measure).

Just depends on how correct you want your bike to be.
The later model year GT250s didn't use a metal brake line at the caliper.

I kept the metal brake line. Needed an adapter to connect it to the braided steel line. Had a local bike shop install it so I'm not sure what kind of adapter it is.

Have the original tank on mine. Couldn't get the original petcock to stop leaking, so I replaced it with a Pingel vacuum petcock.

Thanks man, I don't mind being period different when it comes to the brake lines, but then ill take a close look at the calipers and lines and see what I can do. I'm sure if I order a custom length line from Galfer I can just get the proper fitting and insert directly into the caliper, but then if I could make the metal line work, ill give it a shot, mine is just severely rusted. Ill soak it in POR-15 first and see what happens.

Update:

Got some parts, but I made a mistake, I ordered the wrong tank emblems from the later GT250 years (instead of the original push clip ones) and the mounting holes are off. They were $45 (which im pissed now for wasting the $) so if anyone is looking for some Suzuki tank emblems - brand new, let me know.

I ran mine directly to the caliper(s). It's a cleaner look IMO. Lines were made by HEL. The nifty thing about these lines is you can actually rotate the ends if something doesn't line up just right. That little yellow band you see on the line is the HEL logo.

Here's the latest update, paint. My buddy called and said the tank has a lot of little small dings that with new paint will be noticeable, so I told him to go ahead and take them out and complete the paintwork process so it looks good (might as well), its just a bit more $:

So remember the saddle bags I mentioned made for the GT250? I know a lot of you guys on this board are too cool for saddle bags, but I like them, and they are great for long rides (which I love to do) so I picked them up today:

Ill be getting the brackets powder coated black and installing them eventually.

Got my painted parts back, the pictures don't do them justice, they came out great! Can't wait to clean the bike up more and put them on.



The paint was matched perfectly and I decided that instead of sourcing the old push in emblems I would use the later model ones but with double sided tape as the screw holes don't line up. I have the screws so I will cut the heads off and super glue them in.

Leak Proof fork seals are a bit of a misnomer and are one of few products that I would advise against using. I have tried them a couple of times and they always seem to leak. Maybe it's me, but I won't use them again.

After reading some reviews, I might just go ahead and see if my mechanic has the proper seals in stock, dont want to deal with forky seals in the future.
