It's hard to tell, do you have metal inner sleeves in the rubber donuts? If the rubber is compressed hard, it really doesn't help a lot.
And the broken Jemco's were on Kawi 750's. And they destroyed the hard mounts in the front on another brand pipe. Rubber motor mounts let the motor move even more and more stress on the pipes.

Re: Suzuki GT750 Neuvo Retro Cafe Racer
A stock GT has steel sleeved rubber mounts, but I think that they were removed on this build. A simple modification is to find a rubber grommet at the hardware store and a nylon or steel sleeve so that the pipes bolt up hard to the sleeve and that floats in the grommet in the hanger.
A more elegant solution might be to adapt a modern bike pipe hanger with inbuilt isolastic mount.

Re: Suzuki GT750 Neuvo Retro Cafe Racer
No there are no inner sleeves, the bolts fit perfectly tightly inside the grommets and I can slack off the tightness of the nut, it is a nylock so won't come off. The rubber grommets go into the chamber mounts since those holes were much bigger, then the bolts go through the rubber grommet with washer at the ends. This way there is up and down and also some but very limited sideways movement. There is no metal to metal. I will make a drawing later and post it so you gents can see what I did. I want to be sure my $1000 (after Jethotting) Jemco's don't get messed upja-moo wrote:It's hard to tell, do you have metal inner sleeves in the rubber donuts? OK here is a drawing of the rubber mount I fashioned. Comments, good or bad will be appreciated...just keep my mother out of it

Re: Suzuki GT750 Neuvo Retro Cafe Racer
So close but you forgot to include the sleeve through the rubber grommet that the bolt passes through. The bolt needs to be tight and a sleeve stop it from crushing the grommet.
Next is where the grommet sits. In that picture, what is the bolt doing?
In the sketch, remove the chamber and leave the rest as the hanger from the frame and then re-draw the chamber and bracket (the one welded to the chamber) at the side of that. The bolt then goes through the chamber bracket and through the sleeve in the hanger.
Hope that makes sense.

Re: Suzuki GT750 Neuvo Retro Cafe Racer
Makes perfect sense. But just take another close look and bear with me, the sleeve is only stopping the grommet from being crushed or too tight right, so in order to be able to do the same thing I used a nylock nut on the end of the bolt so I can make it "less tight" by just undoing the nut a few turns. Perhaps my logic is faulty. To get a sleeve in there I will have to make new wider hangers, they are not wide enough for the larger holes it would require. I started the bike and let it idle and the chambers definitely vibrate a lot less now, so it is better than before. I can also move the pipes easily by hand, they are pretty floppy, maybe even too loose, not quite sure how they should be.tz375 wrote:So close but you forgot to include the sleeve through the rubber grommet that the bolt passes through. Re: Suzuki GT750 Neuvo Retro Cafe Racer
I must be missing something in your picture. A sleeve only needs to be like an engine dowel - thin wall. It doesn't have to be thick wall tube. Something like a Honda dowel that sits in the barrel to seal the oil feed up the studs will do fine if it's long enough.
Think about a regular isolastic mount that has an inner and outer steel sleeve, except we'll dispense with the outer in this application.

Another thing you could try is a pair of rubber exhaust mounts from something like a CR125. They are aluminum plates bonded to a rubber center. I use those on our CB160 to rubber mount the exhausts. Part 10 at http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorc ... 1#sch92636" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Bolt one side to the chamber bracket and the other to the hanger.

Re: Suzuki GT750 Neuvo Retro Cafe Racer
Gotcha, the only difference is I am putting the grommet on the chamber and bolting the bracket onto that, so that the chamber is directly rubber mounted. Anyway thanks for the drawing and the link. If what I have now does not work I will make this my fallback plan.

I have no words...this bike has so much character it is ridiculous...it pulls like a train and sounds like a banshee on crack....
I could not be happier with how it turned out. I am sure it will not please everyone's eyes but I am smitten...

You mount looks fine. No sleeve is needed as long as the bolt isn't tight and crushing the rubber.

Wow....I have been lucky enough to watch the progress of this build at close quarters. She looks amazing with the painted pieces on. Looking forward to seeing her "in the flesh" tomorrow!
