Help finding paint and suggedtions:

Post by pearljam724 »

Im opting for an original color. My painter likes to work with Dupont. I gave him the color name and code. Says he's having a hard time finding it manufactured by anyone, let alone Dupont. It's Candy gold #4, code 288 Those of you that got your bikes painted an original suzuki paint color. Where and what paint did you buy? How well has your brand held up over what length of time ? Any suggestions on what my painter can do or where to buy paint would be appreciated. I was thinking Colorrite, problem is their site doesn't pertain to models this old.

I bought the paint from http://www.rsbikepaint.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that I was happy with. Not cheap, fast delivery.
code 288 were in GT250M and GT750K.

My painter has been painting for a lot of years and was unfamiliar with that site's paint compositions. How long ago did you paint it using that sites paint ?

Do you have a sample on the tank or side cover. Most shops can duplicate the shade very easily if they are good at matching.
One tech told me back in the day tints were very basic and limited in options, so its relatively easy to get a modern equivalent very close to the original paint.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

You are correct. Im working on that now. But, I have no equivalent color sample and im hoping to contact someone who would scan a side panel with candy gold at a paint shop to help me with the paint chemistry formula. Or a person so kind to lend me a side panel or other material with that color on it so I could scan it myself. Anyone that knows anyone with this color could help me out. A picture won't work, it has to be scanned off the actual paint. And I thought the paint job was going to be the easiest part of this restoration. Ha ha, jokes on me. It's been the only difficult part up till now. Im nearly done, but putting it back together.

Could you please post a few pics of your bike in bright and darker conditions?
