1975 Suzuki TS 400 value

I am new to the forum, and am not really sure how to start so I guess I'll just get to the point.

I have a 1975 Suzuki TS 400 that I plan to sell, however I have no idea what a fair value for the bike is. I also bought another TS 400 for some hard to find parts (such as the shifter lever and the kick starter). The parts bike ran when we got it, though it looked rough.

The 75 was built by me quite a few years ago, and was never ridden much. The previous owner had rebuilt the engine and it was never installed, much less started until I had her up and running. I stripped down to the frame and painted everything as I went. All the "road" equipment was removed including the wiring, (Though speedo and tach were left) and the rear sprocket was changed in favor of a larger one (still have the original). The only real issues are shifting into neutral with the bike running, and the shocks/front fender do not belong on the bike.

The parts bike as I mentioned was running when it was purchased. I am not sure on the year. The spare engine has had the intake and exhaust plugged from the day it was removed so nobody could make a home in it while it sat. In the Blue/white buckets are the street parts (ones that were present) that I took off the 75, as well as a lot of parts from the parts bike. (Hubs are in white bucket but outside rims were not salvageable)

In short, I'm hoping the people on this forum can help me figure out what I can reasonably expect to get for this bike with the spare parts from the parts bike (engine, forks, frame, hubs, etc). Is it worth it to sell them together? Is parting out my best option?

Oh yeah, and I'm selling for lack of place to ride...that and the Fiance doesn't do so well on the back... would consider trading for 4 wheeler.

well a very nice nearly mint one just sold on ebay for $2500
so my guess would be around $800 to $1200
i didnt see if you have the title, if you have title = easier sale =more$$$
but i am probably miles out.

No, I do not have a title for the bike (not sure bikes this old had titles), I do not have a previous registration either. I apologize for not responding sooner, I didn't actually realize it was a question. Though if I had been thinking, this is still quite a valuable piece of information that I should have provided either way.

Nope. Not true. In the US, it all depends on the rules of each state's motor vehicle dept.

For example, in NY, currently they will only issue a title for a motor vehicle built in 1973 or newer (less than 40 years old). http://www.dmv.ny.gov/broch/c19.htm

Now, I haven't yet registered my 1971 T500, but I have the Georgia state title issued in 1990. But when I register it in NY, they won't be issuing me a new title, and I'll be turning over the old title to the DMV.

Also true in RI. Vehicles older than 10 model years have their titles destroyed by BMV when you register them. They do this because they want you to register every year so you have proof of ownership. The reason is because they tax yearly registrations. I bought a bike from a guy on Ebay and it's kind of a hassle to get it registered and titled in a state that requires a title. But, it was worth it.

In NY a 75 TS400 is a title bike if it were a TM400 it would have but not need a manufacturers statement of origin (MSO) NY has gone so far as to make it illegal to sell any title year vehicle with out the title, largely ignored but it is illegal to sell a titled vehicle with out a title in NY.

Is this bike still for sale? Just thought I would check. Also no title needed or given for the older bikes here in Ct. I am not really sure how old but all of mine qualified, the newest being a 1984. The last bike was a 1976 GT250, just needed a bill of sale and having it's VIN number checked.

No room in the shed anymore! This motorcycle is taking up a lot of my available space, so before I try to ebay the spare engine and other spare parts, is anybody interested in anything? I am not YET parting out the bike as I'd like to sell it whole, but due to lack of interest, if anybody wants to buy the spare engine frame, parts lot, etc. let me know. I'd rather wait to sell the bike until after I sell the spare engine, though they're all taking up space I really want back! I figure if I can get $200 for the engine, and another $75 for the rest of the spare parts I'd be happy. Maybe my price is off, I really don't know.
