"Scientific" probably isn't the best term, but at least it's someone's experience and that's a start.
Pedro,
That's the one I was referring to. One of few back to back, as an average owner would do it, type stories.

Best street pipes for a guy in OZ - contact Pete Gibson through Nobby at Hyside. For a US rider I'd suggest Jemco.
Best looks, - that's too subjective, but stainless from Titan in the UK look good.

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
Thankyou for the kind words TZ.
When Tim and I first made pipes, it really was for our own use, and we hadn't thought about the prospect of selling them to others. We wanted to make them ourselves, to look in keeping with the age of the bike.....so we bought a 100 year old sheet metal roller from a metal shop that was closing, and I learned to use it by trial and error. Tim has welding qualifications among his many workshop skills, but having not done any in a long while, welding stainless wasn't something that was going to happen to the required standard over night. It's difficult, and time consuming, so we give that job to a mate who knows what he is doing. We think the end result is good, and they look as we had hoped they would.......

although your pipes looks nice but I would prefer a shorter tail pipe.
I like the gibson style best.

In a previous post Pedro offered to provide dimensions for a more effective muffler. Do you guys make them all to the same size or can the customer have some input?titan performance wrote:Thankyou for the kind words TZ.

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
Fritz...are you referring to the dimensions of the cones? We make all our 500 pipes to the same dimensions. There are ways we could make them quieter, but to be honest, nobody has complained about the level of noise, and therefore we assume all is good.

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
TP,
No it was just the silencer bit. I had a very loud 3 into 1 on my GT750 that had the muffler packed with what looked like fibreglass woven rope. I stuffed a fibreglass insulation batt in there instead and it made a huge difference. Would a different wadding make a difference to your units? I'm not suggesting yours are too loud I'm just doing a bit of background to see what my options are should Mr Plod decide to give me a hard time.
I do tend to research things to death...my apologies. Now I'm retired I'll get worse.
Cheers

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
Hey Fritz,
I had the baffles out of my Titan chambers a few weeks ago - the baffle was wrapped with a cloth type wadding around a stainless baffle. There was plenty of room for more wadding to quieten the exhaust further.
I'm sure titan will post up with more info or photos

GM,
Yeah that's what I wanted to hear. Different types and amounts of packing will be the go.
Even my neighbour comments about the noise from my place now. I have an R1 with after market pipes that are a bit..err...umm...throaty on a cold morning. Ditto for my car...

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
Fritz.....as Green says, there is plenty of room for another layer of wadding which will reduce noise further, or the alternative, which some of the other street pipe builders use, is what we refer to as a belly pipe. We can't really get our heads around the idea, so hopefully one of the knowledgeable guys, TZ or Pedro, will step in to pass comment, but we have found that some builders have used a solid pipe extending from the baffle into the belly of the pipe in order to further reduce noise. Our 2 stroke guru, Richard, has experimented with this, and reckons there is no detrement to the performance.

Know that feeling, mate.. I try not to be "that guy" in the street, but with a succession of old v8's and bikes, I guess I am!Fritz500 wrote:GM,

This is all sounding very familiar.....apart from my noisy two strokes, there's the R1 and the V8 !

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
I have read installing the stinger section of the chamber inside the convergent cone will make a chamber quieter , you just cannot have this pipe any further inside the final cone than the start of the taper .
the older i get the faster i was

Re: T500 Expansion Chambers - Street rider
We have taken some chambers apart to see what techniques have been used, and I'm sure we have seen the pipe go deeper into the chamber than the start of the last taper......
just re-read your post, and that is exactly what you have said isn't it !
