T500K - photo from 1973

Post by Fritz500 »

I was cataloging all my old photos (no I don't have a life) and found a shot of my T500K back in 1973.
It was the duck's nuts back then:
- ace bars
- blackened barrels
- fibreglass front fender
- underslung expansion chambers

I miss it. I bought a T500K last year to replace it but I think I'll leave it standard. I'm doing up a T500J as a cafe racer to relive my youth...LOL

Cheers

Ah the pipes. Sad story.

A friend designed them (he had a T500 too) and we had them made by a local sheet metal guy. They were so loud despite the mufflers that I decided to get rid of them after a short while.

We modelled them on a set we saw on a T500 (street) race bike that was doing quite well on the other side of Australia.

I was wondering if they could be done today like that, but with better muffling? I was looking at the Titan Performance pipes in SS and wondered how much extra it would cost for the underslung design? Trouble is you have to remove them to change the oil. Oh well.

Cheers

I have been thinking about the same thing. In my head you could use their upswept version, place it under the bike and rotate it so that the swept part will stick out and clear the rear wheel. Then it's only to cut and weld a single angle just in front of the muffler section.
That's all just speculation though...

Underslung pipes are something we must do really.....personally I prefer the, "along the sides" look, but you run into a host of problems, ie clearing the kick starter, and clearance for the rearsets.
I've seen a number of racers who take off the footpeg to kick start the bike, and then refit it once it's running. Bloody nuisance if it stalls !

What Dron says may not be far wrong, but getting pipes to turn just the right amount is very tricky and time consuming......but we will have a look at it.

I'm hoping to build a siamese style set for my own bike, just to be different. I spent a lot of time on it last year, and then got engrossed in other stuff....but these projects are all definitely on the cards.

PEDRO wrote:I spoke to the guy that sold the bike for the owner, a french chap, he made the aircooled clutch too, tried to see if he would make some more of both but he was'nt interested doing anymore, shame really as he is obviously a talented guy even if he is french, I'd let him of this once

someone else said cor gariaets made them, but apparently not
hate to tell but it's Cor Geraets, and I believe the seeley one is from Belgium. (or very very similar)

edit: found the picture and it had a red tail. but the same pipes.

phrasing on my side wasn't the greatest  I tought it was a belgian bike but it isn't (I go to the classic gt's here in Belgium and Holland and with all that eye candy around it's hard to keep them apart.) and about Cor, I've seen the bikes he makes and they are true gems.

these were taken around 1986.
I prefer the old allspeed pipes.
Gibson make them but you will need to take your bike to them.
