I had a oops on New yrs Day

Post by Suzukidave »

Well the 1st started out real nice with a pretty day here in north Florida so my son , girl friend and I went on a nice bike ride . On the the return trip we got to about 5 mins from home and with my son on his Sv1000 turned at a intersection and I with my girl on the back of my 1200 Bandit followed , we barely got around the turn going maybe 15 MPH when the rear end came right out from under us . Ends up I had ridden right thru a puddle of oil where a car had waited for the light and never saw it . We all had good riding gear on complete with riding jackets , full helmets boots and gloves . My gal fell straight down and got hurt just from the fall on her chest ( it didn’t even dirty her jacket ) but did scuff her boot toe . I stayed with the bike a bit longer as it happened so fast I didn’t even get my foot off the peg . My heavy leather riding jacket took a good scuff on the arm but didn’t wear thru , the toe on my right boot also took a hit but protected me so the major ouch is my right knee where I have a nice patch of road rash . The bike did pretty good with the normal amount of rashed up parts from a flop on its side but it rode home OK.

Ouch Dave,

Bikes can be fixed and sounds like your knee is OK, but get it checked out - how is your Gal?

Yeah .. the knee got a nice 4x2" area with a medium rash and Diane is OK but has really sore ribs on the right side . She called her Dr and he told her to call him again if it should get any more sore or if she should begin to cough . Image

Thinking back about it i am amazed how fast it happened , i have a hint as i remember the rear stepping out and then it was over and we are laying out in the street with the engine revving . I really couldnt believe what had happened till the cops and the rescue got there and we looked over the intersection and saw the oil puddle with my tracks running thru it .

I know one thing after this i am really going to laugh when i see one of these guys riding in shorts and t shirt with no helmet , the riding gear we had on saved a lot of skin on both of us and if i would have had the proper pants on we may have rode away without a scratch . Image
