T500 piston rings

Post by joewillybob »

What is the correct suzuki part # for std. rings for my T500R, eng# 40981? I ordered new O.E. rings from Suzuki, but, they are only 1.5 mm thick. The ones in my bike are 2mm wide. The pistons are O.E. suzuki in great shape, along with the cyl. bores. Just wanted to freshen up the top end and do the crankcase mod.Thanks

Sounds like you've been sent the later style Gt rings, which go with the plain pistons.
I guess you have the earlier pistons with multiple grooves below the rings.

I think the part would be 12140-15011 which is NLA. Here's a link - http://www.ozebook.com/compendium/T500parts/image9.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yes, my pistons have the grooves above the wrist pins. Suzuki must have used up all of their older style parts before switching in midyear. Thanks, I may end up buying new pistons after all.
