Do you drink diet soda
Hey!!! I wanted to add my comments to that.
I too stopped drinking diet sodas and POOF, my daily headaches were gone.
Regular soft drinks contain about 140 calories per can, not so bad if you limit yourself to one occasionaly instead of consuming them as part of your daily diet.

Re: Do you drink diet soda
Read my snopes link below. Dave's post included the internet story contained in the snopes link. I'm not saying aspartame can't cause some folks problems, even peanuts are causing an uproar nowadays. But blaming artificial sweeteners for everything from lupus to parkinsons and alzheimers disease. Oh, and don't forget killing diabetics! Gimme a break fellas, anyone really believe this?

Re: Do you drink diet soda
Did you actually read the article? Do you believe MMR vaccine causes autism? DDT was killing little birdies back in the 70's? The US government invented AIDS and spread it in Africa to kill black people? Bigfoot? Nessie? My point is there must be some real proof to make something true. Not conjecture, not theory, not a group of people looking to blame their problems (or find someone to sue) on something or someone. Sometimes stuff just happens, till there is real proof it's just bull.

Re: Do you drink diet soda
Its a case of Moderation people thats all it is, why would somone try to convince themselves an artifical sweetener is good when there the real thing out there already.
Soooo why drink diet soda if theres soda out there with real sugar in it, maybe the general line of thinking is 'now i can drink 20 cans or more a day and not put on any weight'
Ok moderation just walked out the door with that idea.

Or we could be diabetic (as I am) and not able to drink the sugar stuff.Suzsmokeyallan wrote:Its a case of Moderation people thats all it is, why would somone try to convince themselves an artifical sweetener is good when there the real thing out there already.

Re: Do you drink diet soda
My dad also was a diabetic, he just stayed away from from sweets and starches.
Although he did enjoy them every once in a while.
All I'm sayin' DJ is that I realized the artificial stuff was harmful to my organism, it by far caused more damage then good and was not beneficial for me. Others can attest to the same. But hey, if it works for you, ENJOY.

I can see where you're coming from Pedro. I've got a few Brit friends who still insist the Americans staged the whole moon landing thing on a soundstage. I call em conspiracy nuts. The royal family had lady Di murdered is a good one too.And just to add a bit of contention anyone who thinks the twin towers was not allowed to happen by the US establishment is wearing a blindfold

Lastly Aids, if you've ever read up you'd know that the generally accepted theory is that it crossed species in Africa from a certain monkee to humans. Supposedly these tribesmen cut themselves to look more masculine, warlike or what have you, then they rub mud which was contaminated with monkee fecees into the wounds to slow the healing process so the scars heal wider and nastier. That is the transmission route as far as I've read. But who knows, maybe the Bilderbergs ordered the entire continent of Africa snuffed.

Here's a bit of reading on DDT if you'd like your eyes opened a bit............

I think anyone who believes the U.S. government intentionally allowed terrorists to fly planes into the twin towers needs serious psychiatric help. As for the other beliefs posted, a simple tinfoil hat should suffice.PEDRO wrote:djfisher22 wrote: And just to add a bit of contention anyone who thinks the twin towers was not allowed to happen by the US establishment is wearing a blindfold

Re: Do you drink diet soda
I drink diet sodas. Got the taste for them cause my wife drank them all the time. Now I don't like real sweetner. But do like cookies and cakes and such. I look at it this way, we are all dying from the day we are born, some of us take longer than others. Live each day as if it was you last.

After reading that remark, I'm calling out to see if there is a psychiatrist on the board who is willing to help him out? Sheesh! (Shaking my head)And just to add a bit of contention anyone who thinks the twin towers was not allowed to happen by the US establishment is wearing a blindfold

Re: Do you drink diet soda
DDT has a lot of benefits for humanity, that's true but the side effects are almost as bad - not quite, but it is a disaster in many ways.
Artificial sweeteners have all manner of side effects. Some of us are more susceptible to them than others. My taste buds don't like the taste, but we're all different. There have not been enough studies over a long enough time to substantiate claims and since NIH has basically stopped funding that sort of research and has left it up to the manufacturers to fund it, the studies that are published have diminished veracity.
AIDS - I don't buy the conspiracy theory, but we do know that the US and state governments have experimented on prisoners and others for decades. That's documented. I would not be surprised to read that the many governments have released some really nasty bio weapons to test them or by mistake.
Twin towers is a little less clear. Emotion says it's not a possibility, but there are enough apparent "facts" to support the theory. And why so many people were NOT there is a bit of a mystery. That may have been fortuitous or maybe not. What I'm getting at is that it's really easy to piece together enough newsreels etc including those with discussions about buildings collapsing before they actually did, the Bin Laden family jetting out on a special flight etc to believe that something doesn't sound right. We don't want to believe that our government was involved in any way but it's not insane to consider that it is possible.
What is truly insane is that someone planned it and may have allowed that to happen. The first was insane and the second would be even more nuts. That doesn't mean it didn't happen though.
What's more insane was the invasion of Iraq that has cost, and is continuing to cost, billions of dollars. That decision has cost more money and lives than we want to think about.
But those are all old conspiracies and old stories.
I want to hear about the theory behind the Bush era tax cuts that cost the country 7.2 trillion dollars, created the deficit, cost more jobs than at any time since the last recession. No. I understand why some people though they were a good idea. They were wrong, but I understand the rationale. What I don't understand is what the Republicans are trying to do. They know that spending cannot be cut enough to pay for the wars or for tax breaks for the rich. It cannot be done, ie the numbers say so and yet they say they will not allow the debt ceiling to be raised or taxes to be raised from the lowest effective rates on corporations in the country's history. They know that Corporations have record cash balances and are not investing in jobs, so they realize that taking away some of the short term tax offsets (so called loophole) will not harm either investments or jobs. They know that low corporate taxes do not create jobs - as proven by history, so what on earth is going on here? The behavior is not logical from an economic perspective.
I want to hear the conspiracy theory of who has infiltrated the R party to bring down the country's economy. Someone must have a theory about that.
Boehner knows better and has a history of working across party lines to get things done and so does Mitch McConnell . Who has the photos or other dirt on them? What are they so scared about, or is someone threatening their families. Are the Chinese mafia behind it or the Russians.
This one has to have an explanation and eludes me.

Re: Do you drink diet soda
I love reading a post like this that just "morphs" from the place it started to a completely different place all on it's own. We started out with a question on diet soda, cruised through AIDS, DDT, childhood immunizations, conspiricy theories, national budgets, and ended up with the Russians.
Somewhere I think the "no politics" part got lost in the shuffle.

Re: Do you drink diet soda
As for me, I don't drink soda diet or otherwise at all, unless it is just to be polite because that is all that is offered.
I prefer beer, coffee, milk, or ice water, in that order. I just never really cared for the taste of drink that is a mixture of flavorings, acids, and carbonation.
